Getting started with OS/2   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #247 of 1379 |
Hello all,

I hope apologize if I am not doing this posting
correctly. I have been following these lists for
awhile and am about to start playing with a system. I
have a P120 w/64M ram and 2 HDs, a one gig and a two
gig. I would like to run a dual boot OS/2 & Win95, at
least until I am more comfortable with OS/2. I just
want the basics: Office Suite, Web Browser, and if it
is fast enough I would like to to some Java
programming on it.

Here are my questions:

How do I want to partition this? I am planning to
split the one gig drive in half (HPFS/Win95FS), but
what makes sense for the other drive where I plan to
keep programs and data. I would like to be able to
share as much as possible between the OSs'.

Can someone give a BRIEF summary of the office suites
and word processors available? Like I mentioned
earlier, I have followed these lists for awhile. I
just want opinions from users since I see so much
discussion in the OS/2 word processing groups.

Ditto for browsers. I would like to hear some
opinions on how easy to install and use they are.
Netscape and Opera...what else ?

One more thing, hardware. I will be upgrading the
video card, it's a bottom of the line PCI. What can I
get that has some memory and will run on both OSs'.

I am sure I am forgetting or am just ignorant of what
else I should be adding. I appreciate and advice that
anyone can offer. Thank you, Steve Kalfut.

Whether it is hard or floppy, check it for infection
before you use it.

Oops, How embarassing to miss such obvious details. I have both Warp 3 and Warp 4. I will be using dial-up. I was also wondering about using 2 file systems on...
