WATERSAVE- A NETWORK ON WATER CONSERVATION AND
RECYCLING
=================================================

A new network named WATERSAVE has been formed at Imperial
College, London, UK. The network is funded by EPSRC and aimed
at bringing together interested parties from stakeholders in water
efficiency, such as universities, research organizations, regulators,
water companies and private consultants.

The inaugural meeting took place on 26 June 2001 and identified
the main areas of activity:
-- organizing six monthly workshops on water conservation and
recycling issues
-- organizing an international conference in three years time
-- preparing dedicated literature reviews on particular topics on
water recycling and conservation.

The second meeting of the network is scheduled on 4th December
2001 at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Those who are interested
in attending can contact Dr. Memon ( f.a.memon@... )for
further information and registration. The network also manages an

NATIONAL GROUND WATER ASSOCIATION - GROUND WATER
EXPO
=================================================

National Ground Water Association's Ground Water Expo Offers
Something for Everyone in the Ground Water Industry

WESTERVILLE, OH (August 28, 2001) - Numerous practical
workshops, an extensive technical conference, and a highly
successful exposition are among the key elements making the
National Ground Water Association's Ground Water Expo (also
known as the National Convention) the premier annual event in the
ground water industry. The 2001 Expo will be held Friday,
December 7, through Sunday, December 9, in Nashville,
Tennessee.

Professionals from all walks of the ground water industry will
converge on the Nashville Convention Center for Expo activities.
Some highlights of the event will include:

Friday, December 7

-- First day of the Annual Meeting and Conference of the
Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers (AGWSE),
a membership division of NGWA, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The conference
is titled "Groundwaterdata.net-Ground Water Data: Collection,
Reliability, Access, and Manipulation of Basic Data." Friday
session topics include Geophysical Data, Current Status and
Availability of Ground Water Data Derived from Well Permits,
Hydraulic Testing, and Application of Basic Hydrologic Data to
Assess Water Supply Alternatives. G. Tracy Mehan III, assistant
administrator of water for the Environmental Protection Agency,
has also been invited to speak.

-- More than 20 practical workshops, held from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.,
on topics including "Chemical Rehabilitation of Wells," "Politics,
Chlorine, and Bacterial Testing," "Constant Pressure Water
Systems," "Developing Public Policy Based on Sound Science,"
"Arsenic," and "Drilling Fluids, Grouting, and Sealing."

-- Keynote speaker Dr. John Paling , 2:30 p.m., Emmy Award-
winning producer of wildlife films and management consultant,
presenting, "Up to Your Armpits in Alligators? -Understanding
Risks and Building Resiliency."

-- Exposition Preview, 4-7:30 p.m., offering attendees a sneak peak
at participating exhibitors while mingling with peers and enjoying
refreshments.

-- The free President's Dinner, from 7:30-11 p.m., where NGWA
awards will be presented and "The Construction Comic," Carmen
Ciricillo a Discovery Channel regular, will entertain.

Saturday, December 8

-- General Membership Meeting and Breakfast, 7-9 a.m., including
a free breakfast. Most membership divisions will hold their
divisional meetings following the breakfast.

-- Final day of the Annual Meeting and Conference of the
Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers, 9 a.m.-5
p.m. Saturday's session topics include Future Directions, Water
Quality Monitoring, GIS, and Ground Water Withdrawal.

-- Exposition, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.., featuring more than 200 exhibitors
from all segments of the ground water industry displaying the latest
equipment and technology, and discussing their services and
products.

Sunday, December 9

-- More than 10 practical workshops, during the hours of 8 a.m.-5
p.m., including topics such as Vertical Turbine Pumps, Horizontal
Directional Drilling for Well and Utility Installations, Business
Valuation and Sale-of-Business Process, Environmental
Challenges for the Contractor/Citizen in the 21st Century, and
Ground Water Data Management with GIS.

-- NGWA Certification exams, given from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
