Bill,
I went back and dug up my version 4.0-beta 10 trial--the IDE it was
linked to on my machine was 354 days past its trial period! So,
after waiting for 5 minutes and 54 seconds for the penalty countdown
to finish, I tried out your data_sting example, and I got the
output: "MC". Hmmm.
I have taken to keeping the Java Console running while I run Steam
XML so that I can see if any errors cause a corresponding Java
exception. Try opening the Java console (you must set this up in
your Java control panel) and then run your code and see if there are
any errors that pop up when you run the "MC" program.
It is worth a try to ask for a newer version.
Let's see if we can get this figured out!
