Jean and Dave:
Thanks for your wonderful support :) It is my pleasure to use your help to
improve wave. Keep up the good work. Please download Version 1.07. Remove
existing version first before installing this version from

Hi KK,
I'm experiencing the same bug as David. The scroll bar behaves as
expected when using "Zoom in", "Zoom out" or "Zoom between markers"
but does not recover the true size when using "Zoom out full".

Hi KK,
Sorry if I seem like a constant pain in the neck. Found another issue with
Wavevcd 1.06. Using the last .vcd and .setting files I sent you previouslt,
try the following.
1. Zoom out full
2. Using drag box, zoom in somewhere in the middle of the timescale
3. Zoom out full again
You will notice that the horizontal scroll bar now appears although we are
at the fully zoomed out position. You can now drag the scroll bar and the
waveform displays beyond where simulation has stopped. Let me know if you
need me to resend the .vcd and .setting files.
Regards,
David Chong
Hey KK, you've done it again! Another bug bites the dust! Thanks.

This bug is rather obscure. Please use the attached .vcd and .setting files
to verify. On initial load of the VCD file, the waveform should be fully
zoomed out. Using the drag box function, zoom in somewhere in the middle of
the timescale. The waveforms show correctly but the horizontal scroll bar is
now at the extreme left hand side of the window frame and not somewhere in
the centre as one would expect. Clicking the horizontal scroll buttons (just
a single click) brings the zoomed display to the beginning of the timescale
which is incorrect. Hope you are able to reproduce the symptoms with the
files I am sending you. Let me know if you need more clarifications. Thanks.

Version 1.05 is available at http://www.iss-us.com/wavevcd that fixes the
scrolling problem associated with dragbox zoom function. Please uninstall
older version before installing version 1.05.

OK, I've re-checked. The scroll bars only disappears after I zoom in dragbox
from a fully zoomed out position. From any position other than fully zoomed
out, the scroll bars do not disappear, but they also do not appear to change
in length as I would expect they should because the zoom level has changed.

After using the "Zoom in within drag box" feature, the horizontal
scroll bars seem to have disappeared. I am unable to scroll the
waveform left or right. They re-appear again after using the "Zoom in"
or "Zoom out" buttons. I'm sure this would be easy to fix.

OK, found the problem. I deleted the .settings file and the program
did not crash after that. Is it possible for the .settings file to
cause Wavecd to crash?

I uninstalled the version 1.03 and installed version 1.04 using the
msi file. I am running Win2k at home. When I installed 1.04 in the
office running WinXP it worked great. Can anyone verify compatibility
of version 1.04 with Win2k?

Please retry and let me know. Win2k shouldn't create any problem. Let me
know if you installed using the zip file or the msi file.

Hello all,
When modelling FSM (Finite StatesMachines) it is very comfortable to
denoted the different states by symbols when testing a very high level
behavioural model.
GTKwave has introduce the string type (s,S prefix) to display symbols
as strings, being free for a long time, GTKwave is used by many
educational institutions and numerous models using symbols have been
developped.
Then I suggest that Wave VCD introduce the possibility to use and
display s-values.
In the VCD file s-values are introduced by:
...
sHello &
...
s<string without space><space><signal ASCII character name><nl>
This proposal is discutable because s-value are not specified in the
IEEE std (as far as I know).

Hello Khan,
I'm considered as a Group Member (I've logged in and as long I can
trust the menu in top of the page) but I can only access to the
message list.
How to download the version 1.04 ? I'm impatient to try it.
Is it possible to download it from the ISS-US Web site ?
Regards,
JDem
PS: the usability of WaveVCD is almost the best I've tried. Far better
as GTKwave surely.

Is the source code for wavevcd available. I find that wavevcd is
unable to read vcd files created by cadence nc_verilog. As this is
the standard for industry. I would like to take a shot at improving
the vcd reader in wavevcd.

Hi all,
I discovered, about 2 month ago, a very nice free HDL posed upon Python.
It was design as an extension of Python and uses a very powerfull
feature: the generator.
The MyHDL module has been developped by Jan Decaluwe. It can be
downloaded at http://jandecaluwe.com/Tools/MyHDL/Overview.html.
It is the most elegant HDL I've ever seen. The power of VHDL or
Verilog with the simplicity of Python.
It deserve to be tried.
JDem
It seems I'm the 1st member of this group.
May I introduce myself:
Professor at the University of Nice (France).
Teaching computer(processor) architecture.
Using MyDHL hardware description language: a very nice free HDL based
upon Python and developped by Jan Decaluwe (a sourceforge project).
Using Wave VCD viewer to view (of course) VCD files. I modified
slightly the VCD generator of MyHDL which was previously compatible
with GTKwave and not with the true IEEE specs.
Thaks to Khan Kibria for his support.
