Hi,
I am trying to collect my data in a *.vcd file. Simulink lets me do this , it
has a built in block which writes the data to a .vcd file. But when I try to
open it with wave vcd viewer, it complains that a .settnigs file is missing
and it crashes. What is a .settings file and why is it necesssary?
here is the vcd fiel output:
$date
19-Dec-2005 16:20:42
$end
$version Link for ModelSim version 1.4 $end
$timescale 1 ns $end
$scope module untitled1 $end
$var wire 1 ! In_1 $end
$upscope $end
$enddefinitions $end
#0
$dumpvars
1!
$end
$dumpoff
x!
$end
Thank you in advance
I will look into the problem. Can you send me a test VCD file?

I start using WaveVCD viewer (1.07 version) but I encounter a problem
that another member previously reported (fiwapv in a mail from Jul 19,
2005).
The problem is that when I use a VCD file generated with Modelsim I can
see only the bit 0 from any bus.
Since the original post is almost 5 month old I am wondering if is
there a patch available?
Regards
Razvan Jipa
Can you email me the VCD file?

I used the modelsim to generate the vcd file. But when I opened the
vcd file, I could only see (0) bit of a vector signal, for example,
there are 32 bits for the address bus, I could only see address(0).
And so are all the other std_logic_vector signals. When I use the
vcd2wlf to view the wlf file that was converted by the same vcd file,
I could see all bits of a vector signal.
Any idea on this? I am new to this software.
Thank you.
Hi KK,
Good work on this, it's a nice tool!
We'd love to be able to search for an address and have the cursor
position there automatically.
Thanks,

Hi
I use wavevcd on winxp sp2...
Whenever I close wavevcd after viewing some vcd file, a file .setting
appears in the same directory. No matter what I do, settings that I make
(signals positions and rest) never get restored - whenever I open same vcd
file again it opens as no .setting file would exist. Sometimes this same
.setting file causes wavevcd to crash. I know that is this file fault,
because if I delete it it opens normally.

Hi
I've been using wavevcd for quite a some time now... It is far the
best win waveform viewer I have found...
Still, I have some problems (bugs) and suggestions:
- (bug) most of the time I reopen vcd file (file.setting exists)
application crashes...
- (bug) even if application somehow doesn't crash, no settings are
remembered
- (suggestion) it would be very nice if signals positions could be
moved up/down for clearer representation (selected one or multiple
selection move)
- (this is minor importance suggestion) insertance of empty lines
(i.e. visual separating of signal groups)
Best regards,

Hi KK,
Thanks for the fix. As long as you welcome bug reports I'll keep giving
feedback. Here's another report.
Using the last .vcd and .setting files, try the following.
1. Zoom full
2. Using drag box, zoom into section in the middle of the timescale
3. Using horizontal scroll bars, scroll to start of simulation
4. Click on signal name in the left panel, e.g. Clk
You will notice that the zoom level changes when you perform step 4 above.
Regards,
David Chong
Wonderful!!
I haven't forgotten about your request for adding the state capability in
the Wave. It has some architectural ramifications on the software, that's
why it is taking longer, please be patient.
Many thanks for your support.

All zooming actions seem to function properly now. Thanks for your
fast and efficient work.
On my side, I am finishing to modify the MyHDL VCD file generator so
that it is now totally compatible with wavevcd.

Hi KK,
I'm experiencing the same bug as David. The scroll bar behaves as
expected when using "Zoom in", "Zoom out" or "Zoom between markers"
but does not recover the true size when using "Zoom out full".

Hi KK,
Sorry if I seem like a constant pain in the neck. Found another issue with
Wavevcd 1.06. Using the last .vcd and .setting files I sent you previouslt,
try the following.
1. Zoom out full
2. Using drag box, zoom in somewhere in the middle of the timescale
3. Zoom out full again
You will notice that the horizontal scroll bar now appears although we are
at the fully zoomed out position. You can now drag the scroll bar and the
waveform displays beyond where simulation has stopped. Let me know if you
need me to resend the .vcd and .setting files.
Regards,
David Chong

This bug is rather obscure. Please use the attached .vcd and .setting files
to verify. On initial load of the VCD file, the waveform should be fully
zoomed out. Using the drag box function, zoom in somewhere in the middle of
the timescale. The waveforms show correctly but the horizontal scroll bar is
now at the extreme left hand side of the window frame and not somewhere in
the centre as one would expect. Clicking the horizontal scroll buttons (just
a single click) brings the zoomed display to the beginning of the timescale
which is incorrect. Hope you are able to reproduce the symptoms with the

OK, I've re-checked. The scroll bars only disappears after I zoom in dragbox
from a fully zoomed out position. From any position other than fully zoomed
out, the scroll bars do not disappear, but they also do not appear to change
in length as I would expect they should because the zoom level has changed.
