I'm afraid that for those hoping to receive Meteor M N1 HRPT direct with
existing equipment the news is not good.
I have had the following from Dave Wright of Dartcom (my thanks).
One does wonder why the WMO bothers with standards.

Douglas.

Hi Douglas,
I had a reply back from a Russian Engineer who is involved in the Meteor-M 1
project with some limited information - he is not allowed to give me all the
details of the data format. The news is bad regarding the HRPT
compatibility. Life is never simple in the World of so called agreed
weather satellite down link standards and it turns out they are using
665.4KBit with PSK modulation the same as NOAA but using the CCSDS 32 bit
sync word 1ACFFC1D with a frame length of 256x8bit words. It is more like
AHRPT format than HRPT. He says "Meteor is not full analog of HRPT of NOAA.
There is big differences".
Cheers,
Dave
