I'm delighted to be up for the position of SIG manager.
I have worked as a freelancer on websites and indexes (not just
website indexes) since 2006. I do a lot of website maintenance and
re-development, not so much indexing, although I hope to change that!
I passed the Society of Indexers (UK) accredited indexing course
earlier this year.
Prior to self-employment, I worked at the University of Dundee
(1997-2006) as the University Web Administrator, and in various
capacities at the Medical Library, Ninewells Hospital & Medical
School, Dundee (1993-1997). I'm Chartered with the Chartered
Institute of Library & Information Professionals (2003), and I have a
degree in English and a postgraduate diploma in Library & Information
Science.
As Heather mentioned, I'm currently the webmaster for the Taxonomies &
Controlled Vocabularies SIG, and the recipient of the inaugural Web
Indexing Award.
I live and work from my home in Kirriemuir, Scotland, a wee town in
the foothills of the Angus glens and the birthplace of J.M. Barrie
(author of Peter Pan) and Bon Scott (AC/DC). I share home with my
partner, Alec, and our wacky but adorable Gordon Setter.
Jessica's shoes will be tough to fill, but I hope, if I am elected, to
continue her good work.
Best wishes,
Rebecca (Linford)
