Hello: I am running webalizer for NT version 2.01.06 I have many customer
logs that will not process past the date of october 4th. I cannot see
anything wrong in my logs to prevent the logs being generated.
Running with a -d command for debug Webalizer says that all log lines have
been processed, however the html and the png images still continually show
nothing past October 4th.
this happens on all of my customers from that date.
I also do not see that the FoldSeqErr Yes in the conf file does anything.
But if I use the -f command from a dos prompt then I can fold in out of
sequence dates.
Thankyou
Sincerely
Kerry

I think Oct 4th happens to be a bad day for webaliser users.. I have
the same problem, stuck at Oct 4th. I've tried the FoldSeqErr tag,
but it just assumed that all the logs afterwards are from Oct 4th.

I've tried clearing the logs everything before Oct 4th, and it works
fine.... think it's a bug in webalizer, could someone else confirm as
well.

I'm using 2.01.06 for linux

As I know, the version 1.30 doesn't process log files after Oct 4th. A
source code patch has been released on this list. I upgraded to the latest
version to solve this problem.

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade our NT web servers from 1.3 to 2.01.06. NT 4.0,
Sp6a, and IIS 4.0. I've placed the new webalizer.exe and .conf file in
the directory that we run webalizer from. When I try to run stats it
causes an application error. Exception: access violation (0xc0000005).

I've deleted webalizer.current and removed the line for October in the
webalizer.hist file. I'm running it from the command line to test.
This happens on all three servers. Where am I going wrong? Can a
misconfigured .conf file cause this? Are there any issues with this
webalizer.exe version. I've searched messages but haven't found any
posts addressing this. Any idea's to steer me in the right direction
would be great.

Thank you for your time,

I had something like that when I messed with parameter "logtype" in conf
file.

PS: I didn't remove any line of webalizer.hist. I followed the instructions
and
inserted a 0 0 at the end of the lines.

Thanks for the reply. I changed the parameter "logtype" from iis to
clf with no good results. I've compared old and new .conf files and
enabled the parameters that are the same. I've commented the
parameters not needed or wanted. Any other idea's?

Thanks again.

Hello Bill

I had the same problem after the upgrade to 2.01.06.RB04 on NT 4.0, Sp6 and
IIS4.
After this i have downloaded the older webalizer version 2.0.1.06.R03 (not
the beta R04!) and now it works.

Which version do have you downloaded? If it was RB04, try R3...

Greetings

Is it possible to know more than just the IP name of someone
accessing a site? I have the IP name and address, but it does not
respond and shows up nowhere else on the web.

Would be grateful if anyone can shed any more light. Noone here seems
to know how, but I'm sure there must be one.

Obtaining a broad grid reference is possible, but with only the IP
name this tells us little.

Thanks,
Adrianne.

Roger,

Thank you very much. I just tried it and at least it ran. I'm getting
"no valid records found" but I can figure that out based on info I've
seen. The important thing is no application error! I'd tried 3
different versions but not R3.

Thank You!

you can try this at a DOS prompt:
tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Or use a software like neotrace that tries to show the geographic location.

Stephen,

Thank you for your mail.

To explain further.
Was contacted from an IP address.
The only other places I can find existence of it is on
others' web stats.
I don't have access to those sites at present.

Webalizer was used to compile the stats, so I've
sought to find someone who understands the nature of
the program/area.
Learning fast but am new to the field. Hence need
advice.
Is there anything I can do from outside the sites?

Recap:
Have the IP address and name.
Doesn't respond.
Doesn't turn up anywhere else.

Think that IP name doesn't correspond to group's name.
How do I find this or a location beyond a broad grid
reference?

Ip name and grid reference were possible through 'Net
Trace'(?) (older version)

I appreciate any help on this matter,

Adrianne.

Saulo,
Thank you for you mail.
Yes, I have tried Neotrace - an older version.

To explain, I was contacted from an IP address.
Used Neotrace.
Gave me the IP name and broad grid reference.
The IP name turns up nowhere except on others web
statistics and itself is uncontactable.

Believe the grid reference to be correct.
But doesn't tell me much without the actual address or
group's name.

Gather the ISP have data protection restrictions.
And I am assuming they have the correct details.

Do you know how the grid reference is obtained?
Does it bypass the ISP data?

And this tracert at DOS prompt....
Help!
Learning fast here, but only know what I have come
across.

What must I be in to do this.
Must I be within Webalizer?

Thank you for your time on this.

Adrianne.

The best trick on unknown IP's is to use the arin whois dbase @
www.arin.net/whois . This should, at least, tell you who owns the group
of ip's in question.
From there you should be able to find a dns name and then try NSI
(network solutions) whois for the owner.

Or you can do an nslookup on the ip itself if you have the proper
software loaded. Of course, that depends on your OS.

Keep in mind, not all service providers put reverse dns on ip's. A good
example is dialup accounts that have dynamically assigned ip's. They may
have thousands of ip's and just don't take the time to address properly.

Try the arin tool......you'll like it!

computer skills! :-> My apologies.

Arin couldn't help, but Ripe could.
As I found before.
Was only able to give me the ISP though.

After that I found Neotrace (an older version) could
give me the IP name, and a grid reference.

Also, NSLookup is able to give the IPname.

However, the only place the name turns up is on
other's web stats.
The grid reference appears to be quite broad.
So doesn't shed any real light.

Reading Neotrace's sales info it could be they are
using Neotrace's stealth tool...Neo something...to
vanish their trace on the web.

Retrieved somekind of computer address through where
their mail is handled.
May just be to do with the ISP.
Otherwise I get refusals to info, or on Neotrace host
not responding.

Tried to follow what you wrote about NS1 but didn't
know how to find/access it.

Finger trace tools seem useful (through NSlookup
searches).
Haven't been able to find successful access to the
program however.

Learning fast, but never fast enough! :->

From the ISP I was able to understand that it is an
assigned/static IP.

Would have been more concise had I not been going
round in circles for a while today! ;->

Thank you for any help you can offer,

Kind regards,
Adrianne.

I thought this list was dead.

This is the first message that landed here, and caught my attention,
since I had trouble with reverse DNS. However, I cannot determine what
the other user's problem actually is.

I know this is a potentially inflamatory religous question, but I am
contemplating a modifing the reports of a personalized version of
Webalizer to utilize frames. [While it is currently a personalized
version, I am intending to release the application generally at some
near point in the future]

The reason behind the question is soley because the reports are
generally quite big and the top navigation bar is generally not
present (I know the back button will work). And a large number of
commercial report engines also utilize frames.

So I really wanted to put the poll out in the webalizer field to see
if people preferred the current noframes approach, or would like to
see some frames?

Thanks,

Gareth

Would prefer without. It becomes a bit harder to throw an anchor in and
send some interesting point to my boss and my bosses boss when there are
frames.

Optional, or in a different release, would be great though.

How about doing a template-based version instead?

I am a religious fanatic...... In that I cannot stand frames he heee. They
are so darn difficult to use if you need to edit a page. In the case of
webalizer I doubt any editing by the end user would be necessary, but who
knows. Maybe you could make an option for people to have output in frames
mode or in conventional mode.

Thanks for the poll :-)

I most like the template idea and will be running with that. I had
thought about it a while ago, and then dismissed it as too much work!
But in reflection the benefit outways the work, so at least that way
people can get "no-frames simple HTML", Framed, DHTML, PHP etc in any
way that they prefer.

No promises when it will be released though :-)

Hello,
our webalizer version 1.3 quit on 4th of october. We updated to 2.01.
Our OS is Sun Solaris 2.6.
Now the webalizer is running, but when we compare the generated logs
from version 1.3 and version 2.01 there were less than 70% of visits
in version 2.01. For example: third of oct. in version 1.3 500 Visits
                                             in version 2.01 346 Visits

Is it a problem with the .conf files? What can I do?

Thank You

Joachim

Hi,

I have merged the version 2.01.06 from Joel with the 2.01.09 original
version. I prepared a first try version (some Debug output, english only)
for testing. Can you try the version and report problems please?

The DNS code is changed. There is not DNS DB entry timeout enabled and
available. :(
