Troubleshooting traffic discrepencies Google Analytics – Webtrends   Message List

Hello,

I would need some advice from this group on how to troubleshoot a
significant traffic discrepancy that appeared between Google Analytics
and Webtrends. Bear with me, as I am quite new to the field of Web
Analytics.

We have been using Webtrends Ondemand as our main Web Analytics tool and
recently implemented Google Analytics as a complement. It is my
understanding that both tools use the same method of collecting traffic
information (ie: 3rd party cookies). The numbers were close enough in
the beginning, until I recently noticed a significant drop in the
traffic reported by Google Analytics since June 27. See below a
comparison of our traffic numbers:

Webtrends Google Analytics
1-Jun 39,000 36,127 93% 2-Jun 31,251
29,613 95% 3-Jun 39,805 37,605 94%
4-Jun 52,067 49,472 95% 5-Jun 50,683

7-Jun 43,560 40,664 93% 8-Jun 37,932
35,068 92% 9-Jun 30,401 28,951 95%
10-Jun 34,757 34,306 99% 11-Jun 47,908

22-Jun 36,032 33,986 94% 23-Jun 29,116
27,654 95% 24-Jun 35,843 33,935 95%
25-Jun 46,785 45,252 97% 26-Jun 43,760
41,652 95% 27-Jun 41,341 36,355 88%
28-Jun 38,952 37,248 96% 29-Jun 35,193
33,542 95% 30-Jun 29,186 23,895 82%
1-Jul 33,514 26,026 78% 2-Jul 43,547
34,841 80% 3-Jul 40,861 32,976 81%
4-Jul 36,853 28,961 79% 5-Jul 39,872
29,522 74%
I'm quite perplexed by this sudden discrepancy. The only thing that
happened on June 27 is that we had a call our Google account manager in
order to unlink our GA account with one of our adwords account which we
had accidentally linked previously, to link it with the correct adwords
account. Ever since, GA seems to have gone down. I compared the traffic
on our top URL and the numbers are lower across the board, which seems
to indicate that the problem is not with our implementation of the
tracking code, but GA is not capturing a portion of our traffic.

What should I do or where should I look to resolve this issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Lothaire
