Use 13 period calendar for reporting   Message List

Dear analytic inspirers and fellow soldiers,

Looking for a convenient way of reporting throughout the year, I
stumbled upon the 13 period calendar, which divides the year in 13
periods of four weeks each. This calendar is used in sales reporting,
and since I do e-commerce analytics, it triggered me.

In my opinion using this calendar in reporting has some nice
advantages, such as ...

- when comparing the reporting period vs the same period the last
year, you have the same number of days, same number of weekends etc
- if you want to compare a 4 week period with the previous period (in
GA that is), the previous period is automatically set right (in
contrary to comparing this month vs last month)

Do you think this makes any sense, or am I making _not too much_ sense
here? Anybody using the 13 period calendar? I do not find too much
literature on the subject.

And oh yeah, for some back ground info on the subject, you might want
to read http://dylanwan.wordpress.com/2008/02/26/13-period-calendar/

Regards,
Rien Stierman

Ooooooh, that's good too. I like that 4-5-4 idea. Brilliant Barber. I was going to chime in and say that if you use a 13 month calendar, you can compare year...

I also use a 4-5-4 calendar and in the past I've worked with companies that use a 13 period year. The advantages mentioned are big plusses, but the big bugaboo...
