Hello Sonia,

Welcome to the academy. Just a reminder to everyone who's joining
late - in order to receive 'intern permissions' on the site, you need
to register and send a note stating your interest from this page:
http://www.webcastacademy.net/feedback

Once you've sent the note, you should be notified of receiving
permissions within 24 hours.

Task#1 is to post a short audio introduction.
Task#2 (this week) is to post a short (about 1 minute) recording of
both ends of a telephony conversation using whatever method you can.
More info at: http://www.webcastacademy.net/Use_of_Telephony

Hi everybody:)

I'm Sonia Triana, EFL teacher at Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia. I got into technology in 1997 when I  got a Specialization in Multimedia. I'm always looking for new ways to integrate technology, teaching and learning. Last year I found EVO and I discovered a fantastic  group of generous people and an exciting way of professional development. My schedule at the university is really full, so I can't participate in the discussions but I follow  all the threads, check the suggestions and practice , practice.

I watched Lee's movie about uploading  the audio recording but each time I click on "create content" the only option I get is "Forum" . Could you please help me, what else can I do? Well, in the meantime I'm going to post it in the files section of this group...

Thank you for your help and see you around

I apologize for being so late to join you and intro. myself. I work in
California on a project called California Adult Literacy Professional
Development Project (www.calpro-online.org), which is funded by the
Calif. Dept of Ed. Currently I run a program of professional
development courses for teachers and administrators of adult ed.
schools and agencies throughout the state. Most of these use
Blackboard, in other words, they are entirely asynchronous and
discussion-based courses led by a trained facilitator.

I am very interested in exploring additional modes of delivery in the
near future, and Webcasting is one possible addition. I've been in the
field of training teachers of English language learners, both here and
abroad, since 1984 and have been doing this work online for the past
eight plus years.

I promise to make every effort to catch up this week. I'm grateful
that my two required business trips are done now!

Chris,

I do agree about it being "super tough" to attend live meetings. It is at that point that First and Second life clash dreadfully - let alone time zones.

Of course it is great if live meetings work out, but:

Long live asynchronicity

Clearly SL requires synchronicity........

I have not introduced myself, either.

I am Chris Craft and I am a 6th grade Spanish and Latin teacher in South Carolina, USA.

I am interested in webcasting for a new group of international teachers that I started called the NextGenTeachers, located at www.nextgenteachers.com

I did post my introduciton, but it is super tough to attend the live events, so I listen to them recorded!

Thanks...

Dear Jeff, Graham, Vance and all,

I'm Dafne Gonzalez (aka Daf) an EFL and ESP teacher
for more than 30 years. I am a full professor at
Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas, Venezuela, where
I teach blended English for architecture and urban
planning courses, and technology-related courses for
teachers at the graduate level, and for teachers in my
department.

Webheads got on my way back in 2002 and my life
changed, so did my professional praxis.

I am introducing myself very late because I have been
very busy with the Becoming a Webhead 2007 session,
the EVO sessions in general, designing the courses for
the English for architecture and urban planning
courses and training the teachers who are being
incorporated into this program.

I am very interested in learning how to record
webcasts and who knows if in a future I can produce
some for my classes(as you can see I am optimistic). I
use all kinds of web 2.0 tools in my courses, and I
love to experiment with whatever tool I happen to find
in my cyberwalks.

I have Skype and Audacity. Unfortunately, I have not
been able to attend the webcasts, but I promise I will
listen to the recordings ;-)

Looking forward to this new adventure,

Daf

Hello all,

My name is Buthaina Al-Othman, and I'm an EFL and ESP instructor from
Kuwait. I've been teaching freshmen and sophomore classes in the
English Language Unit (ELU) of Engineering & Petroleum at Kuwait
University since Spring 2006. Before that I was in the ELU of Science
since 2001. I am also a Webhead since 2002.

I am very much interested in learning how to run a Webcast and record
it. Unfortunately, I could't be active in Week 1 and won't be able
also in week 2, as I'm moderating these 2 weeks in the EVO 07 ESP
Potpourri. But I'll be lurking if you don't mind, and I hope to be
active in the coming weeks.

I have a skype account, and managed to attend the two webcasts hosted
by Jeff.

I look forward to learning more from all of you.

Best wishes :)

Hello to all Webcast Academy interns!

How time flies! We have now come to the end of week one of the EVO2007 (Webcast Academy 2.1.1) , which is a good time to reflect upon what we should have done so far, and also what lies ahead of us in week 2, as well as answering some general questions about the organisation of the session.

WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO

There are two main online spaces:

1) The Yahoo Group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/webcastacademy/

We will be using the Yahoo Group for reflections and questions about webcasting during the session. Please share your questions, comments, requests, frustrations, etc with us all here. You should also post an introduction if you haven't already done so, so that we can all get to know each other.

Of you prefer to use an aggregator/feed reader (such as Bloglines, or Netvibes, etc.) to read these messages, you can do so by subscribing to the RSS feed:
http://rss.groups.yahoo.com/group/webcastacademy/rss

If you'd like help with this, then please feel free to send an email to me off-list, or contact me via Skype (eflbridges)

We'll also be posting notice about upcoming events to the Yahoo Group (something which we forgot to do this week - sorry!), and a weekly summary / upcoming activities ( i.e. this email)

2) The Webcast Academy (Drupal site): http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/698

Most of our activities, events and knowledge sharing will be taking place at here, so you should sign up for an account, and check there regularly .
Here is the RSS feed for this site: http://feeds.feedburner.com/webcastacademy?q=feed.xml .Once again, using an aggregator / feed reader is the best way to keep up with what's going on.

There's an outline of the evo2007 session here: http://www.webcastacademy.net/EVO2007

and...

How to get started : http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/698 is the place to find the first activities, especially for those participants who have signed up late (don't worry, you'll soon catch up)

WEEK ONE:

In week one, we asked you to...

a) Register at the sites

b) send a text introduction to the Yahoo Group, and record and upload an audio introduction at the Webcast Academy Drupal site (instructions how to do this are here: http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/698 )

c) Download Skype ( http://www.skype.com ) amd Audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) and start becoming familiar with this software.

Remember, that there are screencasts available to help you with this software, and more, at the Webcast Academy Drupal site

d) Participate in one of the webcasts. The webcasts directly related to this evo will be announced at http://www.webcastacademy.net

Our events calendar is here: http://www.webcastacademy.net/event

You can also participate in another evo2007 webcast (and try recording it, for example). Other evo2007 events can be found through the http://www.webheadsinaction.org/ site.

In addition, in week one, you also had the opportunity to be involved in the following webcasts:

 * All About Mac audio : http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/694, hosted by Lee Baber

 *  Audio Recording & Editing : http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/695 , hosted by Lee Baber

 *  Webcast Meeting : http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/718 - A weekly roundup of the Webcast Academy activity, hosted by Jeff Lebow (this will be a regualr slot, on Sundays, every week at roughly the same time: 17.00-18.30 GMT )

Don't worry if you missed any of these sessions - they have been recorded, and will shortly be uploaded so you can listen to them

WEEK TWO:

Coming up in week two...

We'll be looking at basic streaming by starting with Skype & Skypecasting

* Skype and Skypecasting - Tips and tricks / Hosting your own Skypecast (Tuesday 21.30 .23.30 GMT) hosted by Graham Stanley

In the first hour, we will be discussing Skype and Skypecasting tips and tricks (ideas for hosting your own Skypecasts, etc)
There will be a chance to try your hand at this in the second hour. Details are here: http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/740

*  Webcast Meeting : http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/718 - A weekly roundup of the Webcast Academy activity, hosted by Jeff Lebow on Sunday at 17.00-18.30 GMT

Other events and activites will be posted at: http://www.webcastacademy.net/

Happy webcasting,

Graham Stanley

Hi Everyone,

My name is Mary Nunaley and I'm an Instructional Designer at a community college
just
outside of Nashville, TN. We are converting course management systems this fall,
and I want
to create a series of webcasts to help our faculty and students in the
transition. I just joined
late last night so it may take me a few days to get caught up.

I have always been excited about the many ways to use technology and this
academy should
be great.

I have no background in working with audio so I hope you won't mind my many
questions.

warmly,

Greetings All,

I am a recent grad looking for a permanent position in a library. I volunteer my time in various places including the Second Life Library, where I first meet the World Bridges team, who helped me create a live event. Technology is one of the great tools I enjoy using to communicate with the world. I have a website: http://www.mbmpl.org , where I post information about my projects and examples of different services libraries can implement.

I'm here to learn more about streaming live events. I'm most interested in finding ways that are most accessible to people who haven't used technology beyond Microsoft Word, and is available cross operating system. I'm not even sure if that is available now :D

I look forward to growing with everyone here.

Bonjour!

Greetings from chilly Montréal! My name is Sharon Peters and I am a
teacher of English to middle and senior school students at Lower
Canada College in Montreal (an independent day school). Our school
began a one-to-one laptop program this year, so it has been exciting
to see the students learn and grow as they use technology as a tool.

I am also one of the the Women of Web 2.0 - a group that was
established a few months ago to help promote the use of tech tools in
education. We have a weekly webcast, which is hosted using
WorldBridges' support (special thanks to Jeff and Dave for all they do!).

It looks like all of us will have a great time getting to know each
other as we embark on this training session!

See you all on Sunday,

Sharon

Sorry for the late reply - all of the synchronous events for the Webcast Academy will be announced on the calendar at the Drupal site:
http://www.webcastacademy.net/

All the best,

Graham

Hi everyone!

I'm a late entrant to this EVO and signed up as really want to learn how
to webcast so seamlessly as Jeff does. :-)

I'm an ex-ESL teacher (stopped working in that area about 6 years ago),
so feel a bit like an interloper here. I now work in the faculty
development or educational development, depending on the jargon used in
your part of the world. I'm really looking forward to learning with you
all and learning from Jeff, Graham and Vance!

My work website is at http://ihome.ust.hk/~ctnick with links from there
to my blog and flickr sites.

All the best

Nick

Hi there,
I have been an EFL teacher for more than 4 years and involving students in ICT while learning a foreign language is something I praise and actually do in my practice. I belonged to the Portuguese Navy for 4 years and during that time was able to develop some e-activities that you can access here. I love to teach and I love to work with educational technologies. I am now moving to the UK to start a new job as a Learning Technology Development Officer in Salford University, where I will try to assist and guide teachers and staff in the use of technology.
I am a worldbridges fan and I am sure I will learn a lot about webcasts in this course!
Thank you for having me!

Cristina Costa

Hello Webcast Academy! I hope to make most of the live webcasts, though
Thursday's I will probably not make, since I have AfterCare at my
school, usually until 4:30pm, depending on the headcount. Tuesday, I
will maybe be late, but that is my early day at school. Thank you all
for your patience with me, especially Lee!

Hello and welcome to the 2007 Electronic Village Online!

Now that we have officially started, it might be a nice idea to
introduce ourselves

I'm Graham Stanley, one of the co-moderators of this session of the
Webcast Academy (officially you all part of intake 2.1.1). I am a
teacher of English based in Barcelona, Spain, and became interested
in World Bridges and then the Webcast Academy after dabbling in
podcasting with my students.

After encouragement from Jeff and Dave at Worldbridges, and during
the EVO 2006 ELT Podcasting session, I started webcasting at
http://www.eflbridges.net a little under a year ago. We've been
taking a Winter break, but will be back this coming weekend with
another 'World Conversation Club' webcast, which you are all welcome
to join (it'll be at 07.00 GMT on Sunday - more details will be
posted today on the eflbridges site).

You are all welcome to add my Skype contact (eflbridges) to your
list, and get in touch if you have any questions. I don't promise to
have the answer to all your questions, but I'm sure I'll know
someone who does!

GETTING STARTED:

If you haven't already done so, you should set up an account at the
Webcast Academy Drupal:

http://www.webcastacademy.net

There, you'll find instructions on what to do next. This page is the
best place to start:

http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/698

Hope you all have a lot of fun in these coming 6 weeks, and look
forward to joining you during your future webcasts.

Warm Regards,

Graham Stanley

Hi. Dennis Newson here. If Dennis Oliver is around, I am Denos. And if
all else fails I am my Second Life alter ego - Osnacantab Nesterov.
If you are interested in more details about me, go to the old-fashioned:

http://www.dennisnewson.de

Time has made me a bit old-fashioned, but I try to ignore that. I
taught at the university in Osnabrueck, Germany (where I live) for 25
years and before that in West Africa, Arabia and Norway.

I am determined, by hook or crook, to get my PC streaming. I have a
programme that I would like to broadcast regularly.

I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible

Dennis aka Denos

Dear participants,

We are four days away from the official beginning of the 13 EVO sessions. On Sunday, Jan 14 at 15 GMT, we will be holding a webcast at Worldbridges to inaugurate our EVO sessions. Jeff Lebow has graciously accepted to host this session, as he did last year.

You are cordially invited to attend this live event and to start enjoying the wonders of meeting people live in cyberspace. I will give a short intro about EVO in general, and then each moderator will describe his/her session. Then, participants from the different sessions will have the opportunity to share their views with the audience.

We will be using Skype (http://www.skype.com ) and the chatroom at: http://webheadsinaction.org/  (you will see the link to the chat room on the right side of the page.

In order to listen to the session, you need to click on one of the sound channel icons

If you want to participate in the talk (your choice), you need to have a Skype account, a headset, and go to our skypecast at:

https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/skypecast/detailed.html?id_talk=227659  which will open at 15:00 GMT

If you have questions, feel free to ask ;-)

Looking forward to seeing you there, and to the beginning or our sessions,

Dafne

On behalf of the EVO coordination team
