The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education
(ISKME) seeks candidates to apply for the part time position of
Metadata Specialist to support the OER Commons project
(www.oercommons.org).

OER Commons is a teaching and learning network featuring free-to-use
open source educational resources for all grade levels (K-12 through
higher education, and information education). The site aggregates,
curates, and manages metadata on thousands of resources from providers
around the world. The purpose of OER Commons is to not only build
awareness that these materials are available and of high quality, but
also to involve teachers and learners in workshops, trainings, and
activities that add context to the resources, as a way to build
additional metadata (such as tags, ratings, and reviews) and to
educate about open educational content and issues around the
modification and reuse of these items over time.

Duties include:
• Assistance in the continued development of the electronic inventory
of open educational resources through identification of appropriate
resource collections
• Metadata indexing with a strong emphasis on creating, mapping,
structuring, proofing, and transforming appropriate and accurate metadata
• Collaboration with programming team on the implementation of data
harvesting, including using OAI-PMH and RSS and the development of
automated processes around data submission and validation.
• Perform other related duties related to metadata and database
maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with multiple
web-based databases and MS Office applications
• Familiarity with database administration and setup
• Ability to establish priorities and work independently
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent command of written English
• Familiarity with networking technologies or computer science desirable
• Interest in research in education and knowledge management, a plus

ISKME is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, approximately 25 miles
south of San Francisco, in Half Moon Bay.
