Looking for Weblog Environment   Message List

Hello, All,
I was interested in knowing if there is a Weblog enviroment (ala
Movable Type, Greymatter, et.al) that has some specific functionality
that I was looking for. What I would like to have is a Weblog which
is composed of many mini-Weblogs. I would like to have a Main Weblog
on the front page with the ability add the obligatory Quick Links
along the side. This Main Weblog could be composed of many different
entries with of many different subjects.

In addition I would like to be able to create mini Subject-Oriented
weblogs within the same framework. Each mini Subject-Oriented weblog
could have a different set of entries from the Front Page and could
also have a different set of Quick Links along the side.

When I creat a new Weblog entry I could drop into a specific subject
category, e.g. Books, and then when I displayed the Subject-Oriented
weblog that entry would show up. Also when I create the entry I
could have the option of posting it to the front page (aka the Main
Weblog).

So if the directory structure looked like this...

www.mydomain.com/blog/
www.mydomain.com/blog/books
www.mydomain.com/blog/movies

The www.mydomain.com/blog/ would be the Main Weblog and would contain
all of the entries that I posted to it and any entries from
www.mydomain.com/blog/books and www.mydomain.com/blog/movies that I
chose to post to the Main Weblog. In addition
www.mydomain.com/blog/books would have it's own entries as well as
www.mydomain.com/blog/movies as well as Quick Links.

Not that I think about it it would be nice to be able to do cross
posting to different subjects as well. The blog that I've seen which
does the closest job of what I am looking for is
http://www.whump.com/moreLikeThis/index.php3.

Well, I hope I did a passable job of explaining that. Of course I
realize that I could create something like this from hand but I was
looking for an environment which could help take some of the
bookkeeping and busy work out of it.

Thanks In Advance,
Dan Geiser <dgeiser13@...>

Thru a clever use of SSI, and multiple script installs, Greymatter could do it. But Movable Type is built for exactly what you are talking about - and it'd...

Anywhere that you can run your own Perl scripts would work. I use HostRocket.com - but there are plenty of places cheaper than them. Search the MT support...
