Hello Subscribers and welcome to another issue of
Webmaster Tips Weekly!

As you can see, by the header above, the "nos" have it.
Last week we had a vote to determine whether the ascii
art AndersonCreations logo (boy and girl) should remain
at the top of this ezine. Well, the subscribers have
spoken - and the ascii art has been removed. For those
of you who voted "yes" (and probably to stroke my own
pride) I have included the ascii art at the footer of
the ezine instead...:)

We have a great ezine for you this week, focusing
predominantly on video for web sites. Don't miss

1. "Streaming Video From Your Website? Easier Than You
Think" by June Campbell
==========================================================

If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a streaming video
clip must be worth millions of words. Imagine the value
of a video clip showing your product's best features.

Your web video will not have the resolution, clarity and
full screen size that you see on your television. Current
Internet technology has its limitations. And, if you are
wise, your video clip will be of short duration. Even
short video files are huge.

If you have the budget, you can employ the services
of web-video professionals. These people will look after
all of the details for you and in all likelihood will
provide you with a superb product. It will cost you but
you will not have to deal with the technological issues.

On the other hand, if you have a small budget but are
willing to do the work yourself, you can put streaming
video on your web site for a reasonable fee. Here is
how it's done:

1. Plan your video and decide how you want it to be.
Next, tape the raw footage that you need. An
inexpensive analog camcorder will do. The higher-
end cameras produce a quality that is better than
the web can handle. Digital video cameras will also
work, but are not inexpensive.

2. Capture your video in your computer.
You will need a video capture card, a video editing
software program, a fast, hard disk with a lot of
free space, and a set of the cables that you use to
connect your VCR to your television.

3. Edit your captured video using your video-editing
software.
Higher-end software like Adobe Premiere is good.
If you want to keep the budget as low as possible,
check the shareware sites for affordable video
editing programs that could be adequate for your
purposes.

Video editing is a creative process. When you are
editing, you select video clips captured from your
raw footage, and then you combine these clips into
sequences. If your software allows it, you can add
dissolves, transitions, special effects, titles,
rolling credits, animations and text. When you have
added the clips and effects that you want, you
compile the file into a movie.

4. Compress your movie into a streaming video format.
Many technologies are available for this purpose.
Since the key word is "low budget," you might want
to try Real Producer, a free program from Real
Networks. Your web host does not need a Real Video
server for you to use Real Producer files on your
site. Follow the software's instructions to compress
your video movie into a streaming video file. Real
Producer will generate a file with a RM extension.
For example, if your original video file is named
myshow.avi, the streaming video version will be
myshow.rm.

5. Upload your RM file to your web site.

6. Set up HTTP streaming.
First, open a text editor such as NotePad and write
the exact path of your RA file on your web site. In
this case, it might be http://www.mysite.com/myshow.rm.
Next, save the text file as myshow.ram. Note that you
use the same filename as the video clip, but you change
the extension from RM to RAM. Upload the RAM file to
your web site, and create a link to it from a web page.
(In this example, the link would be
http://www.mysite.com/myshow.ram).

And that's it. If you are using the Real Player product,
you now have streaming video that will play from Real
Networks G2 Player.

4. Tip - "The 10-30-60 Marketing Rule" by Dr. Nunley
==========================================================

People often want to know how much they should spend on
marketing. There is no standard answer, but we do have
some good rules of thumb we can use.

The 10-30-60 Marketing Rule says to spend 10 percent of
your ad budget on untargeted marketing. Your ads should
be aimed at everyone. The idea is to do a broad sweep
across the public to find a few people who will become
interested prospects.

Spend 30 percent of your budget on interested prospects.
This is targeted advertising to specific opt-in lists,
postcards to certain people in your industry, and
mailings to people who have called or emailed for more
information.

Finally, spend 60 percent on current and previous
customers. People who have already bought from you
are by far the most likely to buy again.

One of the Net's biggest problems right now is there
are so many people who are jumping on that it is easy
to forget to market to our past customers.
