Dave Stutz of Microsoft has issued a statement, upon his retirement,
that Microsoft needs to move toward open-source and away from managed-
source. I wonder if he was still allowed to attend his retirement
party? I've commented on this same Geek Cruise event, .NET Nirvana,
in my Radio Userland blog, www.moustech.info. Doc Searls has comments
about Dave Stutz at his blog, doc.weblogs.com. I often post to the
Searls weblog, because Linux Journal is one of the co-sponsors for
the Geek Cruise LINUX Lunacy. So I commented today in Searls blog
about being open minded about open source. Simon's keynote was
excellent, as was his lunch presentation. The snorkeling in Grand
Cayman was too much fun, and it is amazing that a relaxing cruise
becomes a brittle political minefield. Simon is a good ambassador for
both Sun and open source. If Eric Raymond or Richard Stahlman had
been the keynote speaker, we would not have had to wait for a UN
resolution to start the fireworks. To Simon's credit, he is one of
the most rational and easy going techno-evangelists to ever attend a
Geek Cruise, and I think he has handled the situation with grace and
dignity. I would have no problem inviting Simon to be the keynote
speaker at one of my MOUStech.NET (www.moustech.net) cruise seminars,
and if he is open to it, he can be a keynote speaker at Tsunami BLOG
2003.
