Bee, if you send me the exact changes, I will add
them.
We usually don´t add the YG URL until right before Jan
1, to stop people from asking to be admitted before
that date. The blue image is not active either.

Hi Bee,
I made the changes to weeks 5 and 6.
why we created other pages:
1. we did not want readers to have access to the mods
wikis
2. we did not want 70+ people have the password to our
CfP, this is not a course wiki for collaboration.
3. Eventhough I created a template, very few people
followed it. Some had a different order, different
fonts, colors. Some used the classic editor and some
the point and click. Anyway, I would have had to
correct them.
4. We explained that the mods page was to be copied to
the CfP wiki.

Hi Bee,
Yes, I received the password, and have already visited
your wonderful site :-)
I created a special wiki for the CfP, and yesterday I
took the information from the template I posted for
each of the sessions. Since the deadline was Thursday,
I worked on that Friday late in the evening. I am
going out now, so I won´t be able to edit the page
until tomorrow morning. What exactly did you change?

Hi Daf,
Did you get my mail with the ID and password?
Also, I updated the pbwiki this morning because I thought it would be the
same page that would be used for the call. However, apparently the call for
participation was copied to another page earlier so the information has not
been updated.
Is there a way you can copy and paste what is on this page?

Hi and sorry if you're seeing this on numerous lists,
But I want to remind you of the free online conference starting in a
few days, May 17/18-20.
Our theme this year is CONNECT: Conversations on Networking,
Education, Communities, and Technology, and though not specifically
mentioned in the theme, many members of the Webheads community of
practice, http://webheads.info, are practitioners in language
learning.
This is the second time our community has hosted a free online
conference. You can replay the first one at http://2005.wiaoc.org
This year we kick off in a pre-show event at 22:00 GMT May 17, with
the start of a Webcastathon hosted by http://www.worldbridges.net.
The conference itself starts at midnight GMT May 18 (evening of May
17 in the USA) with a keynote speech by Leigh Blackall and continues
for three days with more talks by Stephen Downes, George Siemens,
Etienne Wenger, Robin Good, Barbara Ganley, Teemu Leinonen, and many
other presenters whom you can see on the schedule at
http://schedule.wiaoc.org.
To attend the conference you can register for free at
http://www.webheadsinaction.org and use the calendar there or the
schedule link above, or our online help pages, to work out how to
access the presentations and make comments or join forums. The will
be a voice stream of most events available at
http://www.webheadsinaction.org , as well a live chatroom for use
during the conference, and we hope to have someone live online
available to assist you at any time during the conference at
http://www.tappedin.org
We look forward to your joining us May 17/18-20 for this unique
adventure in online professional development. We hope it will be
educational and F.U.N.
Please send this out to any others you think might be interested.

Hello, friends!
I'm very happy to say that my "Have Fun with English! 2" teacher-student blog
won the Edublogs Awards for Best Teacher Blog 2006.
There is a post in the blog about it. http://fwe2.motime.com/
"Thank you" to those of you who voted for us! :-)
Merry Christmas!
Hugs,
Teresa

Dear John,
It's very kind of you and Cristina. You're both very dear friends who have
always supported my work and I "thank you" both very sincerely.
I would also like to "thank" those of you in all these groups (please excuse
the cross-posting) who have shown their enthusiasm and support for my blog
through the lists.
I'm especially indebted to my students, and most of the credit goes to them,
because they have grabbed all my challenges with great enthusiasm and
commitment. Credit also goes to all the Webheads out there who have
supported me in this project and collaborated with us. "Thank you!"
Finally, let me add that the news came as a total surprise for my students
this morning, because only a couple had been to the blog over the weekend.
They were especially proud when I said that I thought we were the only
Portuguese blog nominated. Several "wows" were hard in the room and big
smiles of pride. :-)
Hugs all, Teresa

Hi, everyone!
Please excuse the cross-posting.
I'm very happy to inform you that my "Have Fun with English! 2" teacher-student
blog has been nominated by the Edublogs Awards team for Best Teacher Blog 2006.
I'm very excited, as you can imagine, above all for my students. It wouldn't be
possible without their collaboration.
Voting is now open and closes Saturday, 16 December, at midnight GMT. For my
students and me to have the chance of winning, we need your votes. I hope you
find we deserve it.
http://incsub.org/awards/
I wish to thank the many colleagues who have collaborated regularly with my
students and me to enhance this joint venture, above all, to open up horizons
for them and allow them to communicate on a global basis.
Finally, my congratulations go to Anne Fox and her co-partner for "Absolutely
Intercultural!" being nominated for Best Audio and/or Visual Blog 2006. Way to
go!
I hope I haven't missed anyone.
Hugs all,
Teresa

Hi,
I'm not sure what I answered from the last time I was
at an internet cafe and saw this message. That would
have been about a week ago. I've been trekking in the
mountains of Kyrgyzstan for the last 6 days and have
not been anywhere near a computer in that time.
At the moment I've just returned from this trek,
checked into a hostel in Karakol, stopped off for a
very cold beer, very cheap and very tasty after 6 days
of only water, coffee and tea, and popped by this
internet cafe in time to get onto webheads, at around
14:30 GMT. And I find that Tapped In will not connect
here, so hmmmm too bad.
If anyone is webheads is checking email and can say hi
to webheads for me great. If not ...
Yes, you can get into Uigar country from here.
Apparently the borders are open and all you need is a
chinese visa to get into Kashgar, just a day or two
travel, depending on route, south from here. I've
been in Kashgar already on a Sunday and that was not
in our plan this trip, but I may come back next summer
with such a visa, it is so nice here, and my wife and
I may travel to Kashgar, and on beyond Uigar country,
etc.
Other than that, I seem to have broken the little
finger on my left hand from a moment coming down the
steep side of a pass from 3900 meters, and I'm happy
to see I can still use it to type.
okay, if anyone is at webheads this sunday noon gmt
please tell them I went out of my way but don't seem
to be able to connect. Maybe next sunday from Bishkek.
Or failing that, the following Sunday from Abu Dhabi,
for sure.
Best, peace (ellusively)

Odeo doesn't seem to offer voice boards, just podcasting blogs and the like.
I used it to coursecast a class, that is, to record in class while speaking
the lecture parts of a semester course, posting the mp3 files later with
annotations, which students also found useful. It was an upper division

I have used Wimba (it used to be free, now very
expensive). I have been using Vaestro (free) for a
while(very good)
<http://www.vaestro.com/>
I tried Gong a couple of days ago. I think Gong is

Hi Steve,
I'm just barely following emails from holiday in
Kyrgyzstan. Nice country btw.
I saw a notice for Gong and I'd like to try it out
when I get back to decent internet Aug 15.
The place to run ideas like this by people would be
webheads in Action (I think Steve is a member).
That's only because WiA is more active than this list,
http://webheads.info for the YGroup address.
And yes, I'd like to explore Gong when I get back,
myself. Wimba is costly. If wishing to set up 'voice
boards' I suggest http://www.odeo.com, try that one,
free.

Dafne,
Have you or many other TESOL people used voice boards, such as by Wimba?
They seem quite suitable for students here in East Asia.
Computer professors at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
are offering a new free system called Gong, which includes voice boards,
Moodle functionality, and much more, but some training might be needed.
It has some limitations, but the price is right and it's from Academia.
Just a thought, but how about seeing if they would like to do a session
to build up a user base?

Why webcast? Because it's there?
Why not? That's why I've decided to webcast my talk this Thursday
from Abu Dhabi. I'll be at a conference there giving a talk on
Multiliteracies and Web 2.0, or elearning 2.0 (Downes's term), or
Webheads 2.0 (mine ;-). There's an internet connection, I've got a
mic and web cam, let's see if it works.
I'm actually trialing this for a wetter run from the TESOL Arabia
conference March 30, more on that later. If you're planning to be
there you might drop me a line but feel free to drop in as well.
I've compiled a list of events this Thu / Fri as we shift over to
Tampa later that day. The list is here:

Hey Martin,
You are a good example of 'web presence'
Your picture started cropping up at our Moodle and in our Wiki etc and when
I ran my cursor over the pic it said "Martin Barge". I was curious, who is
this guy?
So you have got the idea, you have established web presence. You've figured
out how it's done. You've succeeded.
A few days back I posted a link to a talk by Stephen Downes in Achorage:
http://www.downes.ca/files/audio/anchorage3.mp3
This is really an excellent presentation in which Stephen makes the point
that getting 'out there' on the Internet used to be difficult. But now it's
EASY. It's just a matter of knowing how to do it. Which is what we have
been trying to get across, and what Stephen manages to say in the course of
a single presentation.
Yes, we will likely get together next year, why not. No telling what
changes will have taken place by then. I'm amazed at the possibilities that
have developed in the single year since we ran this course last year. If
PBWiki existed then I didn't know about it, or it may not have had the
features it does now. But now we all know about it.
I hope to be back with you next year and meanwhile join Moodle for Webheads
if you wish to work with students and Webheads in Action if you want to
interact with teachers between now and next year. The WIA group has been
sparklingly active for the past several years. You can find the relevant
info and links at http://webheads.info
Or see you here, this group will be around as well ...
Best to all,
Vance

Martin,
Absolve yourself of guilt.
At least you participate. Although I'm an avid reader of what people offer
here, I don't work in an environment with Internet connections. This
contradicts the idea of "web presence" in the classroom.
If a class develops that focuses solely on what the CPU has to offer sans
inter- or intra- net,
then I feel I could contribute more.
As McLuhan says, "Invention is the mother of necessity". I have computers in
my lab, but I need some simple upgrades and inexpensive installation.
An example of how I feel simple, inexpensive upgrades to standard MS speech
tools can assist non-web presence CALL is a topic of a presentation I'm
giving later this month. It's on my website:
http://anenglishoasis.com/TESOLARABIA_Presentation_2006.html
Cheers

Dear Webheads,
I haven't participated in the group for a couple of weeks now. I feel
a bit guilty about suddenly 'dropping out' and would like to offer an
explanation.
I'm currently immersed deeply in researching, reading and writing-up
my dissertation for my Master's. The deadline is the end of April,
which may seem a long way off, but with a full-time job and domestic
commitments as well I seem to have no time left at all for any other
hobbies/interests :-( .
Having said that, I've very much enjoyed the parts of the webheads
activities that I've engaged in - I particularly liked the group wiki
- and it's been great meeting you all online. It thrills me to be in
contact with fellow e-learning fans from all over the world and to
share cultural/educational/professional experience through e-forums
:-) . I really wish I had more time to participate more fully.
Hopefully Vance will get us all together again for another Webheads in
Action session later in the year, by which time I'll have completed my
studies and be able to participate more.
So, goodbye for the time-being and good luck and prosperity to you all!!
With best wishes,
Martin (London).
