Email to: computeralert-subscribe@... Topica will automatically send them a confirmation message. Once they reply, they'll be added. Web Virus Problem increasing
Just this morning I received e-mail thanking me for joining their group. Giving me a username and password.(of course, I knew that I had NOT joined)
If you go to the website, this is will happen: When you click on their link....... (sometimes embedded so you aren't aware that is a number). As soon as you go to the login page a program automatically starts to download a program. It contains a virus, Trojan-Downloader.JS.Agent.kd or another similar one. A downloader is a dangerous virus (or sometimes a spyware program) that tries to compromise your security settings and allow other program to download to your computer without your knowledge or your approving it.
The Subjects of these e-mail were: Thank you for Joining, membership registration, Joke a day, etc..
If you get one that is inviting you to login to your new group, PLEASE do not go to the web page as you do not need to add a virus to your computer. You will definitely download this small and dangerous virus even if you have anti-virus program on your computer. It automatically downloads and installs in about 5 seconds on high speed or still less than a minute on low speed.
There is no use in tempting fate, your anti-virus might be defective, expired or just not a really good one in the first place. You never know....
I went to the site to get information for this article. I knew it was some sort of scam, as I did not join that group. I am a computer repair technician with a very well protected machine. By the way, I got the virus and had to remove it from my machine.

I just mentioned computer security so I am adding this here. These are some of the programs that I use to protect my computer:
1. Kaspersky (anti-virus)
Here is one that has been around awhile. It is great and I feel maybe even a little safer (hackers try to get around the "leaders") This one does a fine job, runs quietly behind the scenes and automatically updates every hour unlike the leaders that take much longer... There is a trial version (30 days) that you can download to try first to see if you like it.. This also includes a very good spyware scanner and removes those problems as well. (like two programs in one) Be sure to uninstall or disable any other anti-virus programs during the trial, as they might conflict.
The new version 7.0 just came out Aug 1st/07 even better!! Free trial is available, just go to the home page and look for downloads at the top. This one is putting Norton and Mcfees to shame. Faster and more effectant. Catches more problems, too. (based upon independent testing (see web site for information) 2. Spyware a Problem?
Spyware is becoming a bigger problem than viruses as hacker use these to hijack pages, slow computers down, pops up extra pages, dial out costly Long distance (900) calls, etc. Unlike anti-virus programs, you can use more then one on a computer without conflicts. I am a computer repair technician and the major repair and cleanup problem that I come across involves spyware. This is the program that I use and like..
You can see it at: http://123.fluxads.com/z/114/CD382/ 3. Zone alarm Pro - The best firewall (free version, paid version)
Do you trust Windows XP firewall? I don't,for sure! Running an earlier version of Windows, more reason to protect yourself. ID theft is a big problem, a good firewall is the answer. Zone Alarm makes your computer "stealth" or hidden, which many firewall don't. If they can't see you, they can't find and hack you..
