Thanks, Jedon. The server uses Apache, but programming mods are really beyond
my capabilities. Why is it better to do there than PHP?

Although you can do this with PHP, it's really better to have the web server
do it. Are you on Apache or IIS?

The webserver has less overhead.

Try this.

Hey folks,

I remember a time where there was this cool link to all the legacy browsers
where devs and QA folks could download older versions. I just tried googling and
searching in here but can't find it.

Anyone know a place where they are all archived in a nice neat little package?

I can find FF ones etc, separately like below but I want them all, is that too
much to ask?

We have a Web page where clients pay their monthly insurance bill. They can
either use a credit card or checking account. We have about 2000 people each
month who successfully use the web page to pay their bill. There's a separate
page for using a credit card and using a checking account.

However, some people have reported that they cannot pay their bill. They get to
the page that they use to make payment, click the submit button, and they say
that 'nothing happens'. I assume this means that they see the browser's progress
bar move a bit, but they do not get an error or message or success page.

Our normal process is that the submit button becomes disabled using some
JavaScript, and then our server processes the page request. If the user's
payment gets declined, the page gets redisplayed with a message with the reason
for the decline. If there's an exception in the code, we write the exception
message to the Event Log and redirect the user to a page that tells them some
kind of error occurs. If the payment goes through successfully, they get a page
with a receipt number.

In a few cases, when one of these people have called in, a user in our company
has logged on our web site as the user who called in and then used the page to
successfully make the payment.

I do not know how many people have this problem. I think we get about 10 - 20
such calls a month from people reporting the problem. Of course, I do not know
how many people might have the problem and not call and then just submit their
payment using paper. The total number of payments possible per month is about
6000, so I know about 30% of all possible payments are made using the web page.
I also do not know whether all the problems come from the credit card or
checking account page.

In a first attempt at diagnosing this problem, I put some code in the click
event of the submit button of the payment page. The purpose of this was to try
to make sure we are receiving the request for the page from the user. So far,
we've not recorded anything from a user reporting this problem.

One thing that I think is true is that this problem only happens consistently to
users once it begins. What I mean is that we're not getting reports that a
person can pay their bill using the page one month, then not the next, but then
can pay it later. It's more like "I've never been able to pay over the Web," or,
"I used to pay all the time, but now it never works'" Again, when we log on our
site, we can make the payment.

My guess is that the user is clicking the submit button, but the request never
gets to our server. My question is how to record when we receive a submit
request from an ASP.NET 2.0 web page without putting code in the page. We run
Windows Server 2003. We're running IIS 6.0. I would like to log when we get a
submit from the specific page and the form information (the request data is from
a form, not in a Query String).

Also, do we have a way to record something on the users computer when the submit
button is clicked? We might be able to access some of our clients computers.

Of course, if you have an answer for our real problem, I would really appreciate
that.

Thanks for any help,

Andrew

Hi Andy,

You should be able to check the error logs on the server for that page.  The
logs should tell you what information is getting passed.
Alternately you could create your on error log. I have only done a small amount
of  C# coding, but many miles of PHP and Perl.  I am pretty sure you can do this
in C#. Create a text or log file and write/print/send a copy of the http request
information to the file.

Hope this helps.

The client only. You can download the demo for 30 days if you need to teach
them how to use it (at distance). You won't need it to modify files -
assuming you use DW/FTP/whatever to mod files.

I have small task I need done, and am willing to pay a small amount of money to
have somebody do it. I've checked out Mechanical Turk and eLance, and it
doesn't seem to be a good fit for them.

Here's the task. I have a book in which I've highlighted some passages. I need
somebody to type each passage into a text file, along with its section name and
page number. I'm guessing there are about 50 highlighted passages, some as long
as a couple of pages, but most a paragraph or less. I'm thinking I would mail
the book, along with a postage paid envelope, to someone, they would create the
text file and mail back the book, they I pay them. I'd pay $10-$15.

Am I right that this does not fit the MechTurk/eLance paradigm? Anybody have
experience with either of those, or similar services? Any ideas how I can get
this done?

Thank you!

Look for freelance typists.

Another option might be a decent scanner and some OCR software. The
recognition rate won't be 100%, and might not be that good due to your
highlighting, but I'd actually give that a try first.

Hello everyone,

I have a client who wants to set up a small e-commerce site to sell shirts and

items for sale initially, but different sizes will need to be available. They
will need to be able to charge shipping and sales tax but also offer customers

need of suggestions on a very easy shopping cart, that I can customize for them

need to keep costs down and monthly fees to a minimum. They don't want to do
something like Café Press because they will be buying the merchandise here in
San Diego and handling inventory and shipping themselves. Please let me know if
you have any good suggestions on the best way to handle this. Also, if you have

If you're going the Wordpress route, look into Shopp as well. It works

Thanks Matt & Lisa. She's already got an existing site, but I hadn't
thought about doing something in WordPress. I'll check out Shopp.

If you're going the Wordpress route, look into Shopp as well. It works
pretty well out of the box.

Also check out shopify. I've been using it for a couple of personal projects
have been nothing short of impressed with it. It's a hosted solution, but the
template management is very good, and it's dead simple to get your products
online and saleable quickly.

Anyone have 1 GB (4 x 256 MB) 400 MHZ ECC RDRAM (Rambus) for a Dell
Precision 304 workstation? I can get it off eBay but I'd rather get it
locally. $30 if you have it, must be able to boot successfully. Contact me
offlist, cfmunster at gmail.

I have a Compaq Presario 1240 with a slot for a wi-fi card and it is running
Win98. I have the opportunity to have a wireless network in my home and access
to the ATT wi-fi system.

ATT says the laptop needs at least Win2000 for this to work. True?

The shop says installing Win2000 might require more memory than the laptop has.
True?

I want to buy a new laptop/netbook. False!

Thanks for any info.

Waste of time. Neither OS is supported by Microsoft anymore, and thus
not secure for any network. That's my opinion. :)

Just say no.

Wipe it and install *nix. (I'm not a UNIX/Linux bigot; I use Windows on
nearly all my machines. But when they get old and worn, I convert them to
Red Hat Fedora because it's less fussy about powerful resources.)

Probably not your best option, but it's one option.

The O/S might be only what they support. Or it could be the drivers for
the Wi Fi card.
That would be a question to ask. The install of Win2K would most likely
require more
memory, but I would ask why it needs to run Win2k.

Thanks for the informative suggestions, Joel and Steven. I finally got hold of
someone at ATT who sounded like he knew what he was talking about. The tech
said it makes no difference what OS the laptop has as long as it has the card to
connect to the wireless system (home as well as Wi-Fi). ATT does have some sort
of optional connection software that requires XP or Vista, but says it isn't
necessary to have it installed.
