As you all know, Microsoft today announced their Hailstorm project.
Hailstorm provides a wonderful service to users of the Web, but the
centralized design of the system makes it less useful to many.
It seems that there is strong support for working to build something like
Hailstorm, but decentralized and fully open. We need to put pressure on web
site providers to make sure that their sites not only support Microsoft, but
also let smaller independent developers compete as well.
It's important that this work begin as soon as possible, so I'd like to
welcome everyone interested in such a project to join a Yahoo! Group I've
set up:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/webwide
Our plans are not clear yet, which is why I'm inviting everyone to discuss
them. However, we want to insure that users will have a choice. I should be
able to have my data stored on my own server just as easily as on
Microsoft's.
I invite everyone whose interested to join in the discussion. To subscribe,
send an email to:
webwide-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
or visit:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/webwide/join
Thanks,
