Okay a couple things...<br><br>I understand about
the color differences (with the meory sticks), it's
trivial anyways. But I do know that OS 3.5.2 CAN and HAS
supported 64K colors. I know this becasue I used the be the
owner of a Handspring Prism. I don't think that Sony
will relase a patch that will up the OS to 4 (or an
equivalent). I even called them to find out, they said no. And
just so every knows... 8 bit color = 256 colors, 16
bit color = 64,000 colors.
I remember reading somewhere that the current
version of the US Clie is running the 3.5.2s OS which is
only capable of 8 bit functions which would limit the
Clie to 256 colors. However the screen that is
installed in the Clie is 16 bit capable which would allow
it to display the 65,000 if the OS could handle it.
I believe that Palm OS 4 is 16 bit capable. I'll
look for the information again and post the link when
I have time.
hi,<br><br>about purple and white sticks, well,
it is a cultural thing. Japanese call these regular
MemorySticks blue. different perspectives. I did not mean to
confuse you. Americans call those purple and Japanese
call them blue. <br><br>I did not know 128MB
MemoryGates are already in US market. Kool.<br><br>as far as
the screen color goes, Sony Japan says, 320x320 and
256 colors. (is that 64K or is that 32K? I cant
remember.)<br><br>ClieLover
Thanks but I think you have a few things mixed
up. First of all, the two different types of sticks
are purple and white. Also, they're already selling
the 128MB MG sticks (white ones) here (US). The US
version DOES come with 8MB of flash ROM. And I think your
display can display 64K colors. Please help me clear this
up...
PEG-N700C is the model number. <br><br>The
differences are ... <br>1. US model has 4MB of flash ROM,
Japanese version has 8. So using JackFlash 2.1, I can
store about 2.5MB worth apps in flash ROM. I think US
version of 4MB is all taken. <br>2. US model comes with a
Memory Stick. Japanese version does not.<br>3. US
version can listen to MP3 files. Japanese version
requires the conversion of MP3 files to ATRAC3 via Open MG
Jukebox. On June 18th, Sony is releaseing a new version of
AudioPlayer, so that we can listen to MP3 on Japanese version
as well. (It will cos us around $15.00 for upgrade.)
ATRAC3 requires the users to have MemoryGate
MemoryStick, white ones. But with the new AudioPlayer, we can
use either blue or white stick. In Japan, sony is
selling 128MB white sticks. I will be in Japan for a
business at the end of this month, so I am considering
picking one up.<br><br>I think those are the major
differences. Of course the Japanese version is running a
Japanese Palm OS.<br><br>If I think of other differences,
I will post it again.<br><br>ClieLover
I have a question for anyone that owns a japenese version of the PEG-N710C. I
think it just doesn't have the 'c' after it, am I right? Is there any difference
between that model and the US version?
Hi all, I own the new CLIE (US version, too). I
must say that I'm pretty impressed with it. There is
one thing that I don't like, it's the price. I bought
one and basically went broke. It's a nice unit, but
really expensive. I would reccomend it to anyone. If you
can afford it...
hi,<br><br>Bluetooth will allow you to connect to
wireless network to serf the web or check email. and
MemoryGate Stick is just like the blue MemoryStick except it
has the copyright protection feature. For PEG700C,
you have to have this white stick to listen to MP3.
but for American PEG710C you can listen to it on
regular blue sticks.<br><br>as far as different memory
card goes, yes, it is pain to keep up with. all i have
are memory sticks and i have a memory stick reader
right in my pc card slot of my pismo500. it mounts just
like a removable drive. i can even install application
via memorystick instead of doing a hotsync.
<br><br>to me MP3 feature was one of the biggest sell point,
since i was about to buy a MP3 player. I like the
remote feature on the cabel to the headphone and i like
that fact i can turn off the screen and listen to MP3s
for up to 11 hours. That is kool. I can download not
only music, but audio books and lectures. I listen to
lectures alot in my car from Clie via signal converter to
FMsignal on my car radio.<br><br>I hope this
helps.<br><br>ClieLover
I was at CompUSA last night and saw the new Color
Clie. Pretty sharp! I was really tempted to pick it up
but it is expensive. Also in speaking with a guy from
the store, he said he's now got to deal with Memory
Sticks, Compact Flash and one other type of add on memory
format for all of his devices! It seems out of control.
So I think that is the only thing that is holding me
back because I do want to eventually get a digital
camera as well and I don't want to have to deal with 2
or 3 different kinds of memory formats, especially
since I use a Mac and I want fewer complications not
more!
Thanks for the reply. I am currently using a
Visor Deluxe. I've had it since it was first released
back in March 2000. I like it but I am ready for a
change. (Personally ready for a change, not necessarily
financially! Ha!)<br><br>More questions:<br>1. InfoSticks -
what will the bluetooth one allow you to do?<br>2.
MemoryGate Sticks - what are they and what do they
do?<br><br>I agree about the color and the jog dial is cool.
Is the MP3 feature the major selling product of this
device, do you think?
Great question. I used to have a Visor Deluxe. I
dropped it and shattered the screen. I debated wheather
to pay $85 and get it fixed or buy a Clie. Well I
bought a Clie, and I am not regretting it.<br><br>1.
It's color, and the color is bright. The color is
better than Visor Prism.<br>2. No battery. I used to
change the battery alot on my Visor. I think it is
chaper in a long run. I was spending 4-6 batteries a
month.<br>3. I was in a market for a MP3 player. And Clie does
it well.<br>4. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P1. and i
can look at the pics in index form on my Clie.<br>5.
I can use PowerRun to keep apps in memory stick. My
RAM is almost full with apps.<br>6. InfoSticks will
be out soon. (I hope) Just like the springboards,
infosticks will allow Clie to expand, such as bluetooth,
camera, gps, etc.<br>7. Jog dial and back button features
are useful, especially when your right hand is
unavailable.<br><br>But I do agree that price is steep. So far I spent
$$$ for the body then bought two MemoryGate sticks
(white ones) for $90.00 each on ebay. I won't be buying
anything else for a while.<br><br>I hope this
helps.<br><br>ClieLover
I am interested in buying a new color CLIE but I
am hesitant due to their cost. I like the color
screen which is sharp and easy to see. I am not sure I
need the MP3 part of it though. I like the design and
the jog dial. But what advantages does the CLIE have
over VISOR? Memory sticks are expensive too and what
is the purpose of the Memory Sticks? Why would you
need them?
I am answering my own question, but according to
cnn (Jan. 12, 2001)<br><br>"The menu for
Bluetooth-hungry technophiles is growing. Just last week, Sony
unveiled the Infostick at the Consumer Electronics Show
(CES) in Las Vegas. It is an expansion module that
brings wireless Bluetooth capabilities to any device
that supports Sony's MemoryStick. Meanwhile,
Plantronics previewed a Bluetooth headset at CES 2001, and
i2Go released Bluetooth-ready digital audio players
and pocket PC devices. "<br><br>taken

I just saw on PalmStation.com that Fry's is
selling 710C. Yes, now the wonderful 700 series is being
sold here in US! Go get it and let's talk about it. If
you already have one, tell me about the MP3 feature
of 710C. I dont get to use MP3 yet on my 700C, not
until June 18th. Then Sony will provide an updated
audio soft for 1500yen. Let's talk!
