| Letter just received: Hi Don. Thank you for the update on Monarch numbers. I thought that you might be interested in my observation that while traveling through 11 states (North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana) from June 20 to July 3,2009. I observed remarkably few butterflies and not a single Monarch adult or larva; this in spite of stopping and collecting insects and spiders in dozens of localities in many kinds of habitats. The weather was sunny and warm every day. Several extensive patches of milkweed were examined (the largest was in Washington) where I collected 65 Milkweed Beetles (Tetraopes femoratus I believe) at one site (hundreds were seen) along Crab Creek Road, 8 km East Beverly (off Hwy 243) in Grant Co. Several hundred species (over 200 specimens) of arthropods were collected, which I will donate to the JB Wallis Museum in Winnipeg. I hope this observation is of some use. Bob Wrigley
