Immodesty?  Hold on I'll have to look up the definition of that word...  According to Miriam-Webster the definition of immodesty is: not conforming to the sexual mores of a particular time or place

So you see it does have to do with sexual mores.  As I stated before regardless of what 'word' I may use the exact very same sentiment is there.  Words are just words and we determine what they mean to us.  By 'Hugs' I don't mean anything different than I mean by 'Regards' 'Sincerely' or 'Love'.  I'm not arguing the point with you but only trying my best to understand your meaning and to explain mine.

When all is said and done we are energy, we aren't bodies or mores or any of that, and we send energy to one another through words but at some point in our human evolution may decide to stop using words and just communicate through thoughts.  I can't imagine how your religion might handle 'thoughts' but from what I've learned so far I'm sure it would be very limiting in every sense of the word.  Not trying to insult your religion my friend just expressing what I see.  I don't really see how it matters in the least what word I use but I will be happy to comply so that you aren't uncomfortable.  However all that said your discomfort is your decision and anything I might write or say to you can only make you uncomfortable if you decide to feel uncomfortable.

Love,
Cher

Hi Cheryl, the reason that I asked you that before was because of my concerns about modesty etc.  Afterwards I gave it some thought and came to the conclusion that imho the word love does not neccesary imply immodesty, whereas hugs may be a bit too much for to handle at this point.  If you could use love instead of hugs, that would be appreciated.
love and light,
Aaron

Aaron.  Now I'm a bit confused.  It wasn't but a few weeks ago that you asked me not to use the salutation 'Hugs' or 'Love' when posting messages to you because it was against your faith.  I'm assuming that the reason why you felt it improper had something to do with sex although not everything.

However that said I believe that it's mostly western Christianity that has a problem with sex and it's most prominent here in the U.S.  Maybe it's our 'Puritan' beginnings but we do have many hang-ups and it seems to be that most of them are the direct result of the 'Puritan' attitude toward sex.

Hugs,
Cher

Shalom Cheryl and Prasad, imho Judaism does not have a problem with sex.  Marriage in Judaism is referred to as kiddushin, which shares the same root as the word kadosh meaning holy.  The Song of Songs is called the holy of holies.  The problem with sex in Judaism is when it is used for self indulgence in ways that are against halacha (Torah law) rather than as a service of Hashem.

Aaron

I might also add, even with my limited knowledge of Hinduism and Indian beliefs, that the sex act itself is also regarded as holy and that there are temples built depicting every sexual position possible to honor sexuality.

I'm afraid that it's only the middle eastern and western religions that have such a hard time with sex.

Hindus don't have an problem with idolatry, my friend. It is not looked down upon in Hinduism. The issues with idols and their purpose has been completely clarified and reconciled with the Formless All Pervading, All Knowing Pure Being-ness of God for thousands of years now. I am sure " The Lord of Thieves" has absolutely nothing to do with idolatry.

Moreover, it is not the Hindu belief that the physical world is "impure" or "unholy". It is in-fact the holiest of holies. The human birth is completely treasured (it is in fact considered to be much more important than being in an angelic body) and so are many many trees and animals. In fact each of our God/Goddess has a animal-vehicle which is also worshiped in context of the God/Goddess Himself/Herself.  Each of our temples has an Temple-tree attached to its premises which is again worshiped and maintained as a deity in itself. Up until the 1950s, temples also used to have huge groves which were associated to them and considered to be sacred.

Love and Light.

Hi Prasad, it makes sense to me that idolatry may be referred to as being like theft, since it seems to me that idolatry is about channeling divinity that originally belonged in the realm of holiness and purity, into the realm of impurity and the sitra achra "other side."
