I don't know what to tell you. Everything looks file as you show it, and I just did an install on a clean XPSP2 machine from the package on my site and it worked great.
I'm sorry it doesn't work for you. If I think of something, I'll be sure to post it, but I'm out of ideas.
I checked the version for the OCX new files copied : C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCT332.OCX new 6.7.89.88 C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMDLG32.OCX new 6.1.97.82 C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscomct2.ocx new 6.0.88.04 C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX new 6.1.97.82 C:\WINDOWS\system32\msflxgrd.ocx new 6.0.84.18
I updated to : C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCT332.OCX 6.7.97.82 C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMDLG32.OCX 6.1.98.13 C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscomct2.ocx 6.1.98.13 C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX 6.1.98.13 C:\WINDOWS\system32\msflxgrd.ocx 6.1.98.12
But it is still not working... Very frustrating...
Did you think about a solution ?
Thanks Laurent

Hi Rick,
I checked the version for the OCX new files copied :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCT332.OCX new 6.7.89.88
C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMDLG32.OCX new 6.1.97.82
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscomct2.ocx new 6.0.88.04
C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX new 6.1.97.82
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msflxgrd.ocx new 6.0.84.18
I updated to :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMCT332.OCX 6.7.97.82
C:\WINDOWS\system32\COMDLG32.OCX 6.1.98.13
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscomct2.ocx 6.1.98.13
C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX 6.1.98.13
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msflxgrd.ocx 6.1.98.12
But it is still not working... Very frustrating...
Did you think about a solution ?
Thanks
Laurent

Yes Rick, I ran the setup from the download link... it is from this site that I
got the Yahoo group link...
Here is the content of the "C:\Program Files\Whats_up" folder created :
26/03/2009 00:55 7 759 cities.csv
24/02/2006 19:07 85 defaults.txt
27/03/2009 00:43 3 401 dll.txt
12/02/2006 12:16 30 182 Objects.csv
26/03/2009 00:56 3 367 ST6UNST.000
09/01/2009 19:25 3 401 ST6UNST.LOG
25/03/2009 18:53 110 592 Whatsup090308.exe
24/02/2006 18:52 110 592 Whatsup.exe
8 fichier(s) 269 379 octets
Whatsup090308.exe is the file I downloaded from the group, hoping it will solve
the problem, but no, problem still here...
Here is the ST6UNST.LOG installation log file from the program folder. I just
removed the extra blank lines...

There are two ways to start the program : either by double-clicking the program
in the file explorer, or using the desktop shortcut with a "start in" property
value of "C:\Program Files\Whats_up".
In both cases, the program opens, the dialog box pops up to ask for the
Objects.csv file, but there is no .csv file in the file list part of the dialog
box, wether I change the folder or not... The only way to stop the program is to
kill it with the task manager...
Thanks for your help...

Did you just download it from the files directory here, or did you get the
complete installation from here?:
http://www.whatsup.ricksastro.com/fpurchase.htm
It sounds like you have no objects.csv file at all (can't even browse to it),
which tells me you didn't run the install.
You need to run the install as instructed on the page above. Unless you want
to use your own larger objects database, you don't need to update the installed
exe with the one in the files folder here.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your fast answer.
If I double click directly from the directory, it is the same thing : the dialog
box asking to open the Objects.csv file, the files part empty, and the folders
part showing the program's directory.
What is strange is that the "program files" part is shortened as PROGRA~1, like
when W95 (or 98, I don't remember) was introduced with half support for long
names. Maybe it is the trail to follow ?
The program's directory contains two .csv files (cities and Objects), one .txt
file (defaults), the program file, and two files related to the
install/uninstall process (ST6UNST.000 ans .LOG).
I there some .OCX to update ? Can you give the correct .OCX version/date/size ?
It is really frustrating to see that so many people uses the tool and find it
great, and not being able to !
Cheers

A few things to try...
If you go to the C:\Program Files\Whats_up directory (or wherever you have it
installed, do you see the Objects.csv file?
If you double click on Whatsup.exe fdirectly from that directory, does it work?

Hi,
I registered yesterday to download the last version cause I had this same
problem with the 1.1 downloadable from the site.
But I still have this problem, even with your solution, the soft cannot find and
open the objects.csv file...
XPSP2 on a Centrino laptop...
Thanks for your help !

Brilliant - thanks Rick. I'm still fiddling with the format of the catalogue, but once I get it sorted I'll post a note and make a copy available to anyone who want's it.

It was an easy change....made it 10k like you suggested.
You should just have to replace the whatsup.exe with the one in the files that I just uploaded.
If there are any other minor updates you want, just let me know.

My observing location is kind of limited, so it's really good to be able to get a quick list of possible targets without having to worry about what's behind the house or in the trees!

Sorry for the delay.
I've not seen this before. After doing some Googling, it seems the VB
runtime library wasn't installed with the Whatsup installation for you.
Try to download it here:

Nope, that's the way it's supposed to work.
The session length filters the objects such that they will be in your
set view for the entire session. Basically, any objects that show up
on the list will be good for the entire 5 hours.

Hi,
When I change session length from 1 to 5 hours, the objects in the list
are fewer. How come? I thought that longer session would give more
objects.
Best regards,
Mats
Robert,
Are you launching it from a shortcut on your desktop?
If so, it needs to have the "start in" properties set
to the directory the program is in. On my computer,
it's set to:
"C:\Program Files\Whats_up"
(note, quotes are needed since there's a space in the
directory name)
That should fix it.
BTW, If you navigate to the program directory, when
the Objects.csv file dialog show up and just hit OK,
it should find it (I'm not sure why it doesn't show up
on the file list). Unfortunately, it doesn't save
it's location. But doing above should work.
Let me know how it goes!

Good morning,
Superb image of M27 by Rick on APOD ! Congratulation. (that's where I
got the link to What's Up)
I have just downloaded What's Up and installed it on my home PC (P4,
Windows XP). I never had such a weird problem before... All installed
OK but when I start the application, What's Up come up (!) and a
window pop up asking me to locate the file Objects.csv. In fact the
file is in the ...\What_up directory along with the cities.csv file
but it just does not see it! At that point, What's up freezes and I
have to kill the application. I have been able to open the
Objects.csv file with Excel. I have tried installing in a different
directory with the same result.
Have anybody experienced such a behavior before? Better, has anobody
a solution to this problem?
I am puzzled...
Robert
P.S.: I installed What's up on my laptop and it works like a charm!
After Rick fix'd the program so control C would work, I still found
that the paste would not be in proper order and user friendly. I set
up a spread sheet with the columns properly formated and now I can
paste the Whatsup list to the excel spread sheet and it is in the
correct format. I put that spread sheet in the files section. Just
download the spread sheet, delete whats there first, then paste the
new whatsup list, starting in the upper left ccell under the highlited
row.

To let others know, Jerry noticed that cut and paste didn't work

bought the released version, let me know and I'll send you the update!

Just a note to say I purchased this program after trying the demo and
immedately found a problem with the copy and paste. I e-mailed Rick
and it was fix'd in less than an hour!!! Wow keep it up rick. I do
like this program as it is. I tested it and compared it to my "The
Sky" for accuracy and could not find anything wrong. I love it! Now
Rick if you would just add a print button :) :)
Thanks, Great Job
