I have not used the Sigma 170-500mm, but have used the Sigma 50-500mm f4.0-6.3
for both birds and for wildlife. I have had great results in daylight, however
when twilight comes, i have to push my film to get good results. Overall, for
the money, it is a great lens. I think the 170-500mm would be just as good, and
if I had to purchase again, would probably go with the 170-500mm for two
reasons, first, the price is much better and second, I rarely use the lens below
300mm, for anything less, i use a 75mm-300mm or a 24mm-80mm lens.
Hope this helped.
Dan

Subject: [Wildlife Photography] Intro and sigma lens questions
Hi All,
My name is Jade and i live in Queensland, Australia. I am into
photographing birds mainly and am looking at purchasing a sigma lens.
My question is has anyone used the Sigma APO 170-500mm f/5-6.3
Aspherical RF DG lens? And if so what are your thoughts on it and is
it any good compared to an L series lens from canon. I look forward to
everyone's replies.
Regards,
Mr Jade Welch
