Most multimedia keyboards came with thier own software. You may have to install the software for the keyboard. I went the other way and installed a multimedia keyboard and had to install the software for the keyboard to get any of the features to work.
Also look in your control panel and see how the keyboard is set up. You just may have to install the driver for the keyboard. The sound card should have nothing to do with the keyboard.
Hope this helps.

I have a 4 year old top of the line DELL desktop on which I just
replaced the hard drive. The DELL multimedia KB has keys on it to
raise/lower/mute the volume. Before the hard drive crash those keys
worked great. Since the replacement of the hard drive and the
reinstall of the CD the keys no longer work.
Can anyone give me a clue as to how I reactivate those keys and their
screen view?
It has a Santa Cruz sound card.
