Doris,
If the Wintopo works for you, then you ought to consider buying the Pro version.
It is not too much money and will allow you much more freedom and many different
file types.
Also, when coverting raster to vector, you always have to redraw the line work.
Basically you will have to trace most of it over again. The areas where there
is a blank maybe because something was in the picture that covered that portion
of the line work. For example if you were to scan a drawing of an arial
photograph it shows the trees over the sidewalks and portions of the house.
When you scan it and begin to trace it you do not want the trees, so in those
spots you end up with a blank because the sidewalk or house under the tree was
not included in the photo. In those cases it is necessary to interpolate and
draw what you think was most likely to be there.
All scanned images converted to AutoCAD dwg files require some redrawing.
The lines you want to be bold looking can be done easily in a polyline and given
a desired thickness, or you can use color for your plotter to assign a thickness
by color, but using polylines for thickness maybe a better way for you to
control the thickness. You have to try the different methods and chose the one
that works best for you.
Glad I could help.

Subject: [wintopo] Converting bmps etc
Hi
Just downloaded this program. Looks really great. I use bmps,
wmfs,
emfs to digitize for machine embroidery. Need design with nice solid
black
lines. Did one design with this program, but some areas were
missing and
the others very light. How do I darken the lines and still keep it
vectorized. Can a bmp be converted to a wmf or emf? Thanks for your
help.
