The WinTopo Development Team are pleased to announce new versions of
both WinTopo Freeware (v1.61) and WinTopo Pro (v3.01).
Both versions benefit from a greatly improved Vector Extraction
engine. This is most significant for WinTopo Freeware, as this is the
only vectorisation method in the freeware. In WinTopo Pro this affects
only one of its 2 vectorisation methods.
The old vector extraction engine tended to produce an excessive number
of individual polylines, and sometimes a 'straircase' effect was
produced on diagonal lines. This was particularly noticeable when
using Zhang Suen (or Best Combination) thinning rather than Stentiford
thinning.
The new improved vector extraction method produces the minimum number
of individual polylines, and no staircase effect is produced. And, as
before, the polylines always terminate at line intersections.
In WinTopo Pro this vector extraction method is used when the "Break
vectors at intersections" option is chosen on the
"Intersections/Colour" tab of the One-Touch Vectorization settings
window. If you do not use this option then you won't notice any
difference (it is not the default method for WinTopo Pro).
WinTopo Pro 3.01 also benefits from a fix to a bug in command-line
operation of the recent HSL/HSV Thresholding function.
Both WinTopo Pro 3.01 and WinTopo Freeware 1.61 can be downloaded from
the WinTopo web site at www.wintopo.com
Holders of a WinTopo Pro 3.0 License can install and use WinTopo Pro
3.01 without re-licensing. Holders of an earlier version license
should go to www.wintopo.com/upgrade.htm - upgrade price and cut-off
date are still being held from January.
