Sort of new here, for have been aquainted with Win Topo since 2001
only. But I work mainly with very large sized plans. The plans are
often three feet by ten feet long. I haven't needed, nor had a use for
WinTopo until recently. Back several years ago, I used it on a plan of
about two feet by six feet. Since then maybe have used in upon ten
details of about letter size. That may change.

Can someone chime in with bit of knowledge as to certain questions.

1. I have couple of spare computers here, using Windows 98. Is a
computer with a faster CPU and lower RAM better than one which has a
slower CPU and much more RAM?

2. Sometimes due to length of plan(s), I do not see all of it. In TIF
format, I can see it all, but in BMP it cuts off the plan at about six
feet. I tried converting a drawing in BMP format, and it took about 1
1/2 hours. Only the first 6 feet of drawing got converted. This file
size runs about 60 to 140 meg in size, depending upon how many lines
are present.

Also tried to convert a ten feet long one done in TIF format, after
two hours, the hard drive was still being acessed, but operating
system said nothing was being processed via WinTopo. This file size
was reporting in at about four meg.

Does anyone here work on very large drawings, such that they can tell
me what is going on?

3. My drawings are so large, not too accurately drawn either. I rework
them heavilyin to what I want to see. Most every line in DXF format
gets removed, and replaced with an Autocad line. But which is fastest
line reduction method to get to that DXF file? The Stentiford or the Zang?

4. Using Kodak Imaging for Windows, I will bleep out big rectangular
sections of drawing, mostly containing shaddows, text, unwanted items.
These somehow get added to a converted image. Am I missing something,
or wasting my effort here?

I dunno, maybe I am using wrong software for such a large drawing.

Wm.

Now, I understand. Could have done that some time ago. Some of these things go unexplained at the WinTopo web site system requirements. Did not understand why...
