The fact that the processing estimate is in excess of 1Gb would
suggest that your image is very large in terms of the pixel width and
height. WinTopo requires about 1 byte per pixel during the processing
stage.
Although you have 2Gb of RAM installed, Windows is probably using a
large chunk of that. Maybe 250 Mb if you're using WinXP, or as much as
400Mb to 900Mb if you're using Windows Vista.
WinTopo Pro keeps at least one copy of the 135Mb image during
processing in addition to the memory required for the processing,
unless you use the "Use Processed Image" option, and there may also be
another copy stored for an Undo operation. Hence, in your case,
WinTopo Pro is probably needing 1159+135+135+135 = 1.56Gb of RAM.
Windows and any other applications that you use may already be using
400Mb of your 2Gb. The Microsoft Windows memory manager is not too
good at organising very large requests for memory when the remaining
space is tight (or exceeded). Therefore, when WinTopo Pro requests the
1.15Gb of RAM for the processing operation, it looks as though (on
your machine) Windows is unable to provide it.
Possible resolutions would be:
1. Find some way to reduce the pixel dimensions of your image (see
previous suggestions for reducing the resolution).
2. Close all superfluous applications when trying to process the image.
3. Install additional memory, if you really do need to process such
large images.
