Hi,

This is Ammankumar. I have 2 Queries regarding Implementation of OFDM
Transceiver implementation using FPGA.

1) How to determine no.of points in IFFT w.r.to Bandhwidth?

2) Where the compression happens in OFDM ? in IFFT or QPSK( for example)

Kindly help me. Thanks in Advance

Hi Gautam,
- Look for open source device drivers which have
softmac implementation.
- Security protocols are standard and part of a
supplicant with driver-phy interactions for E(x)D(x)

- You will need an ARM cross compiler which you can
get with cygwin. ARM ADS will be costly!

Also search for source code on MIMO.

Gautam,

First of all you need to decide the scope of the project. The WiFi
technology includes two distinct layers - the Physical layer (or the
PHY) that does all the signal processing and the Medium Access Control
(or the MAC) layer that defines the protocol of when a device can
transmit on the network. Each of these layers is quite complex by
itself.

The technical standard that defines the WiFi protocol (called the IEEE
802.11 standard) can be downloaded for free from
http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/802.11.html

There are also several active groups that are defining improvements to
the standard. You can find out more about these activities at
http://www.ieee802.org/11/

Study these so that you know the current state of the technology which
will give you an idea about what can be done.

Feel free to post on this group with more questios.

Regards,
- Harshal

Hi Neeraj,
Signal of WIFI too possess the property of Electromagnetic Waves i.e
so the signal of a WIFI access point is accessible inside the glass
Chamber. Constraints, Access Point must be in LOS region of the
Chamber and more the thickness of the GLASS, Weak the Signal Strength.
Hurray!

Hi Neeraj,
WIFI signals Have Similar Property as electromagnetic Waves. So they
are easily accessible inside the Glass Chamber Provided the Access
Point is in Line of Sight. Besides, more thick the glass weaker the
signal.

Immanuel,

The number of clients that can be supported depends on the AP
configuration. Enterprise-class APs from Cisco are more powerful (more
memory, faster CPU) and can support dozens of users. On the other
hand, APs that are designed for home use can typically support only a
few users. I don't think any vendor provides specific numbers for this
but I could be wrong. Look at the data-sheets of APs from a few
well-known vendors to get an idea.

As for the data rate, the 54Mbps is the physical data rate for the
entire network. All the devices share that rate so as the number of
users increases, the throughput per user typically decreases. Also
note that even in a network with a single device connected to the AP,
the maximum data throughput is much less than 54Mbps due to protocol
overhead.

- Harshal

Sheela,

The utilities that come with a NIC typically have an option for
setting the card in a promiscuous mode. The firmware/hardware of the
NIC have to be configured to be
in this mode. So if you want to do this yourself, you need to know the commands
that the NIC expects.

Good luck,
