People,
it's with great pleasure that I learned how the transcoding vendors are
positioning their fucked-up proxies with carriers who ask questions
about why everyone is so pissed at them:
"The limited negative press is largely propagated by people who have
vested interests -eg. Usage of non standard tools and browsers, control
of WML communities etc."
Translation:
"The limited negative" = the huge negative press (if it was limited they
wouldn't be mentioning it at all)
"vested interest" = let's artificially create the notion that someone
wants to monetize on this: that's a great way to explain the problem to
people who do not understand the technology enough to understand the
real problem.
"Usage of non standard tools and browsers" = Let's create the suggestion
that transcoders are about standards (took me a while to write this
sentence. I was getting interrupted by my own laughters). BTW, I would
love to hear their definition of standard browser....
"WML communities" = the community which hangs around a list called
WMLProgramming at Yahoo groups. Let's exploit the name to convey the
ideas that those cavemen still stick to WML.
Anyway, take away point is that developers' voice is being heard, so
don't stop that voice. It's working effectively to preserve the mobile
environment from those who are abusing it by getting carriers to take a
hard look at what they are doing before they do it.
Thank you
Luca
