Hi
I am developing a WAP site in XHTML using PHP and
SMARTY on Linux platform.
One issue that concerns me is the various screen size
of mobile devices.
Is there any way by which i will develop a single
template in SMARTY, that could be visible in a uniform
manner irrespective of various handsets screen size.
Kindly help me in this... waiting for your replies..

Those 2 models of Ericsson are notorious for their bad implementation of
what they claim is a wap browser ...
best to make the site plain and simple for those 2 by downgrading the
capacities ... force them to use plain wml with very simple image use ... ie
... no icons and stuff ...

The homepage is flash only for compatible devices - chtml for others. The
pages off the homepage are chtml with a flash banner.

So you are saying that the qcif and sqcif were the intended values and
the max_width and height were added later?  Would it be better to
simply use the max_width and height values, as that gives us an easier
way to grow with the future handsets with out loosing the qcif and
sqcif data as they will fit into the above values?  Or are there
phones that can do qcif but not sqcif?

Ideally, all the frame rates that phones can support ;-)

But it appears that most devices are indeed in the 10-15 frames per
second range.  Although, a colleague tells me the Microsoft SPV's can
do more.  I guess the question is how long until we do have to start
worrying about this detail?

Yes, PHP has libgd support built-in. All you need to do is enabled it
at compile-time.

Someone already suggested, in the past that we would include the form
of pixels.
There isn't much interest in this, though.
Anyway how would you calculate the ratio if you don't know the screen
dimensions in inches or cm?

In the past not all devices let you do as many things are you can now.
The distinction also comes from the old days of Openwave's downladfun
which REQUIRED that you specify "wallpaper" or "screensaver" or
"picture" when providing the image. Some devices accepted images with
only one or two of the tags, for example Siemens devices required
screensaver, I think. In that case it would be important to know the
supported format and thus the tag to use.

In modern phones it's not the same, most devices will let you do
whatever you want with the image. One thing that is still different
in most cases, is the size in pixel. Screensavers should be bigger to
fit the entire screen, wallpapers should be smaller to leave space to
softkey labels and icons on top.

I don't think there's anything you can do unless you partner with the
carrier directly.

AFAIK the RBT's are WAV files that are played by the network instead
of the classic ring-tone while you're calling someone and he hasn't
picked up.

generated some codes via " Kaspars Foigts" wall-php libraries. and he helped me
well . but after some days that code failed. nothing i done with the code. it

check that you have all your tags opened and closed properly ...

wml / xml browsers are much stricter than html browsers ...

I see your wml sample has a </p> tag to close the paragraph but no <p> to
open ... if you use the wap gateway emulator from nokia you'll see these
errors in its log file while your testing ...

This is actually page redirection issue when after identify few capabilities of
NokiaN-Gage. basically i wanted to match midp and max_image_width.

Please try to produce valid xHTML (validators are fantastic tools) before
submitting your problem to three mailing-list ...

Your site won't even be accessible on strict xHTML browser (like
SonyEricsson Z1010 or P910).

Anyway do not expect a very good support of xHTML/CSS on the T630 (depends
how complex your code and layout are).
And note that SonyEricsson still has poor UI rendering for form element.

Hello Luke,
      what error are you getting? Why did you leave WALL4PHP and move
back to WURFL?

Do you know any device that supports mip2.0 and not midp1.0? How
should a device get in one of the last 2 "if"?

You might consider adding a:
die();

after header settings, this will prevent the code to continue being
executed.

I can't see of any. And I also don't see how could a device be able
to play a big movie and not a smaller one.

If nobody is against it we could remove it.

Let's leave a few days to other developers to consider this proposal
and then decide.

I checked old emails and qcif and sqcif come from the original
proposal of Charles Yong. He had collected a lot of data from
different documents and tried to make it homogeneous. If we think
pixel dimensions fit can remove the qcif/sqcif values.

I had a similar problem with something a while back.
Are you using the WURFL a tag? If you are, you could
try just hard coding in the a tag and see if it
behaves the same and try and get it right that way? It
could be that you've got an extra character in there
that you are clicking over first?

I am developing my application using XHTML MP. I have face a problem
about preselect a option in the SELECT element. For your reference I
put some sample code below.

I test the above code with Yospace SmartPhone Emulator Developer
Edition 5.0. But every phone emulator (Nokia 6600, Motorola V500,
Simens SX1, Nokia 3650, Sharp GX-10) that support XHTML MP faill to
display the preselected item on the SELECT element when the page
load.

However Openwave v7.0 Simulator successfuly displayed the page.

Then I remove the SELECTED attribute from the OPTION element.

Indeed.  Perhaps we could then add it make the default 15?

Just to summarize the topics of this thread so far:

*) Add the streaming bitrate capabilities to the video object_download
section.

*) Possibly remove the qcif and sqcif value and rely upon the video
max_width and max_height to determine qcif and sqcif support.

*) Add frame rate to video object_download?

If all else fails, could you order your items so that
the one you want selected is always at the top. That
way it's guaranteed to be selected? Though it probably
might go against the natural ordering of your list?!

Greetings board. My name is Akiba Howard. I am about to launch a web
site selling ringtones. To get RIGHT TO THE POINT - this is the
second of these types of sites I have run, the first had the WURFL
functioning perfectly. The programmer I used for that project has
dissapeared off of the face of the earth, and for the life of me, I
cant find ANYONE else that knows the WURFL, and can do a simple WAP
integration for me.

That is why I am posting here. I would like if one of you WURFL
experts would assist me in the integration of the WURFL into my new
site. I desperately need to get this done, as the site in its current
form only delivers MP3's. Well, I have 6 to 7 different formats, and
need to service a bunch of people.

If I could ask that the admin include the email address I use
akiba_h@..., and beg that one of you that read this get in
contact with me to give me the needed assistance on getting the WURFL
up and running on my Ringtone site.

What i have been forced to do, is to make a simple
version for these phones, because their browser does
not support as many features as it should.

use Apache server and Php4.I want to view my wml files with a WAP
emulator which is installed on another m/c.
  I use Openwave's SDK.I typed the url "http://<ip address of my
