Some stoves are easy to clean and don't make much of a mess. Other
stoves are a bear to clean and are impossible to avoid a mess on the
hearth pad around the stove. I've actually heard one fellow who
changed models (from the same manufacturer) because of the cleaning
issue.

Our stove is a bear to clean and very messy. Routine emptying of the
ashes is not a problem. With good quality pellets, you only have to
empty the ash pan about once per ton burned.

I guess that all depends on how careful you are and how often you do the cleaning. The dirtier you let the stove get the more ash and dust are going to get...
