To canvas opinions from the group on that topic, I have set up a poll
about making the archives publicly readable:

The poll will close on 01 March (next Monday) so make your opinions
heard by then.

The results so far have slightly surprised me, but things may still
change before the polling closes so I'll wait until then to assess the
recommendation.
