JSR 110 is defining a new Java API for WSDL. (See
http://www.jcp.org/jsr/detail/110.jsp).
It's not a parser, but this API can be used to read or
manipulate a WSDL description.

A preliminary implementation is available from IBM
developerWorks. See
http://oss.software.ibm.com/developerworks/projects/wsdl4j

Best regards,
Anne

Hi,

What exactly do you need? A Soap Client or Server or both.
There are many free web services listed on www.xmethods.net , so you can
test these from your soup client.
There are also tutorials on how to built and deploy WebServices using
different servers on xmethods.

Apart from the above link, you can find an excellent tutorial at
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-03-2001/jw-0330-soap.html

Did someone use UML (or is it possible/reasonable) to model/specify
Web Services (and software specifications)? Does WSDL and UML use
fundamentally different models? (I noticed that UML uses the
terms "message" and "binding", but with what seem to be different
meanings than WSDL).

check OMG's MDA. There is a presentation mapping Web services architecture
into MDA. ( MDA - Model Driven Architecture ). This may have some answers.

I've been reading up on WSDL and SOAP and I've found some simple
stock-quote, address-book examples etc. etc.

I'm in need of some real life examples!.

I'm used to working with CORBA and I want to know some common
patterns. Like the common way to do object refs. i.e...
Are they done the C way??
like(pseudo code)

account = GetAccount( username, password )

balance = GetBalance( account )
// balanace == 100

AddDollars( account, 10 )

balance = GetBalance( account )
// balance == 110

I think account should be some complex type with an id and some hashed
security key etc.

I am using WSDL4J for parsing WSDL files. In some WSDL files, the
parameter order of messages is not specified, e.g. the googleapi
wsdl.

Using WSDL4J I get an incorrect order of the parameters, therefore
when I invoke the service, the parameters are not in the correct
order, and the service fails or behaves incorrectly.

I tried a few workarounds, some of which worked. E.g. I read the
position of each part in the message. However, there are times when
the WSDL4J returns the incorrect ordering of the parts. Is this a
problem WSDL4J or is it my code which is incorrect.

   public Vector getInputParams(Operation operation)
   {
     Vector inputParams = new Vector();

     if (validParse)
     {
       //get the input message for this operation
       Input input = operation.getInput();

       //get the message for this input
       Message inputMessage = input.getMessage();

       //get all the parts in this message
       Map partMap = inputMessage.getParts();
       Collection partColl = partMap.values();

       //iterate through each part
       Iterator partIter = partColl.iterator();
       while (partIter.hasNext())
       {
         //each part can be seen as a parameter, therefore construct a
new
         //parameter object for each part in a message
         InvParameter param = new InvParameter();

         Part inputPart = (Part)partIter.next();

Taking a better look at the WSDL4J api, there is a method which is
bettr than the one I was using,

getOrderedParts
public java.util.List getOrderedParts(java.util.List partOrder)
Get an ordered list of parts as specified by the partOrder argument.
Parameters:
partOrder - a list of strings, with each string referring to a part
by its name. If this argument is null, the parts are returned in the
order in which they were added to the message.
Returns:
the list of parts

Sorry for bothering ;)

Send Email Send Email

Hi all,

I am investigating the "doc/lit", and so far,
I have been unable to see the differences of the
the constructs below:

1. Define one array as a separated type:

<xsd:complexType name="ComplexDocument">
<xsd:sequence>
   <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"
name="simpleDoc" type="interop:ArrayOfSimpleDocument"
/>
   <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"
name="child" type="interop:ChildDocument" />
   </xsd:sequence>
   <xsd:attribute name="AnAttribute" type="xsd:string"
/>
   </xsd:complexType>
<xsd:complexType name="ArrayOfSimpleDocument">
<xsd:sequence>
   <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"
name="SimpleDocument" nillable="true"
type="interop:SimpleDocument" />
   </xsd:sequence>
   </xsd:complexType>

2. Why not like this ? Is this different from [1] ?

<xsd:complexType name="ComplexDocument">
<xsd:sequence>
   <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"
name="simpleDoc" type="interop:SimpleDocument" />
   <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"
name="child" type="interop:ChildDocument" />
   </xsd:sequence>
   <xsd:attribute name="AnAttribute" type="xsd:string"
/>
   </xsd:complexType>

It is also, confusing the roles of "minOccurs",
"maxOccurs" and "nillable". I have seen things like:

   <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"
name="child" type="interop:ChildDocument"
nillable="false" />

Wouldn't the cardinality telling that the element is
optional ?

Thanks for your help.

Is it possible to use the bindings defined in the WSDL spec to
describe operations that are invoked through HTTP GET or POST, but
return a SOAP message? The closest way I can think of is to use the
GET/POST binding extension, and in the <output> element for each
operation in the binding, use <mime:content type="application/soap">.
The problem with this is that the service description wouldn't tell
whether rpc or document style is used for the SOAP response.

Any ideas? I'm assuming that if you tried to mix those two binding
extensions in the same operation, tools would not be able to make
sense of it.

Thanks for any advice,
Barry

Can anyone tell me how to merge separate interface and
implementation WSDL files into a single DOM parser instance?
In WSDL4J is seems that you have to have both files combined into one
input source to have them parsed into the WSDL impl objects.
Perhaps you are suppose to call the readWSDL method in the
WSDLReaderImpl class twice (once for each file)? Please enlighten me
as I haven't found much discussion about how to use WSDL4J. Thanks.

Hi,

You can use WSDL4J for this task. Lets say you have your types, messages and
port types in a file called interface.wsdl and another file
implementation.wsdl containing bindings and services.

Just put the following into the implementation.wsdl file (assuming
http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl is the default namespace)

   <import location="http://somedomain.com/interface.wsdl"
namespace="some-unique-namespace"/>

Now to access this using WSDL4J, use the following

   Definition implementation = WSDLReader.readWSDL(null,
http://somedomain.com/implementation.wsdl);

implementation is a reference to the entire object model of the
implementation file. To access the interface object model use:

   Definition interface = (Definition)
implementation.getImports().values().iterator().next();

Currently however there is no way for WSDL4J to merge these two object
models into one. However it would not be too difficult to iterate through
the iterface object model and add all the elements to the implementation
object model. You would also have to remember to add the interface namespace
to the implementation definition object.

implementation WSDL files into a single DOM parser instance?
In WSDL4J is seems that you have to have both files combined into one
input source to have them parsed into the WSDL impl objects.
Perhaps you are suppose to call the readWSDL method in the
WSDLReaderImpl class twice (once for each file)? Please enlighten me
as I haven't found much discussion about how to use WSDL4J. Thanks.

I always get the wsdl4j docs via IBMs web services toolkit.

Hi,

   Anybody knows how to specify the character-sets(Unicode, Octet etc)
supported by the web-service in WSDL? This will be required for a web
service to which a client sends request in his native language
(Chinese, Japanese etc).

Hi,

   Please mail me if any WSDL doc should have the following namespaces
defined compulsorily:
xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/"
xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"
xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/"

  Also, please point me to the section of WSDL that mentions that it
is compulsory.

Hi All,
Now the latest snapshot of wsdl4j in CVS is version
0.8. There are some newer versions:
wsdl4j-0_9_for_review
wsdl4j-0_9_for_review_b
wsdl4j-1_0_for_community_review
wsdl4j-1_0_for_community_review_b
wsdl4j-1_0_for_community_review_c
I want to know when they will officially release
Wsdl4j 1.0 (not a "for review" version")?
Thanks!

Or, as a more general question, does standards

Hi,
hi,
I am novive in this area and working on soap appliction between IBM
WebSphere as soap-server and .NET soap-client. .NET client requires
to establish the reference of soap service before making a call. We
are trying to achieve this by pointing the .NET client to the IBM
websphere server location where service.wsdl file resides. When it
tries to establish the reference, .NET gives following message--"HTML
document does not contain Discovery information"
I have WSDL files for the soap-server generated thru IBM-WSAD tools.

I am surprised that when I make MS-SOAP toolkit client establish the
reference to websphere-soap-server it works fine. Does any one know
what kind of discovery information .NET client is looking for ? Also
when I made .NET client talk to the development server that comes
with WSAD(from IBM), It worked fine as well !!! So it seems that
WEBSPHEERE needs to have some setting or configuration required on
its side for .NET client. Do I have to pulish my webservice thru UDDI
for .NET client to communicate, is there any workaround ?

Jay

Does anyone have a UML model of WSDL 1.1 Schema?  If you do and can share it, I would really appreciate it.
