I would suspect it would - it's very good. But what's the risk in trying it - it's quality software.

Hello all
.I have one questions about WUHU software.
I want to know,WUHU software it can to work with windows Vista or
no ? .Because some weather-friend here from Greece he want to know if
he can to use the software ,because he have window vista .

Thank you
Best regards from Greece Dimitris

Gregory,

In the tweak section, Offsets (Add or subtract a fixed value), did you
enter -7.000 in the temperature edit box?

You must also click the Save Settings to exit the tweak screen.

At some point, someone told me they had WUHU working under WUHU.

The only complication was that WUHU had to be given permission to
access it's program folder (c:\program files\wuhu).

You might have to give it permission to write to other directories
like c:\heavyweather\ if you are outputting a currdat.lst or template
files.

Another tip I forgot about, you must allow ActiveX controls to run
under Vista, as far as I know, that is not the default.

Google 'Vista ActiveX Controls' for instructions on how to allow
ActiveX under Vista.

Dan,

The next time you think that there is a problem, change the start and
end hours for the stats, enter 0 and 24.

Next, look at the high and low for the rain total.

If WUHU is calculating the 24HR total, the formula is simple:

24HR Rain = (Total High - Total Low) * tweak value.

Hi, I have just been given a WS2350 weather station which is all
working well apart from I cannot get it to synch with my computer.
I think it it to do with problems with USB driver. Any help or
suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

My computer runs XP and I have Heavy Weather Beta 2.0

This is my first weatherstation so it is a whole new world!

In an earlier message the comment below was made:

We had a few discussions about creating an "open-source" weather station
using a PIC controller to collect data from weather sensors. I am not
sure if you are in to the PICs, but that might be an interesting
project. The idea behind the project was to create an accurate,
affordable, real-time weather station using available parts on the
market (like the Inspeed Vortex wind sensor).

I think this is very doable.  I am part of a very large robotics list group and I believe there are many that may be interested to be part of this open source weather station.

If this group could come up with a very concise thoughts on what this open source project would look like, I would be happy to introduce it to the robotics group who would have no problem with coming up with the technology.  But it would take the weather group to define the problem and the robotics engineers to work on the technology.  Some on the group would take the information from the open source and make kits out of it.

Let me know what you want me to do.

BTW I did order the WS-2317 as two more hurricanes head my way here in Florida.

There was a very good series of articles recently in Nuts and Volts
magazine detailing a DIY weather station. I believe the author has the
articles on his web site for anyone to use now but I don't have the URL
off hand. I can find and post it if there's a desire.

Henry,

Did you verify which COM# that the USB to serial adapter is using?

To check, right click "My Computer", select properties, select
hardware tab, click device manager button, expand "Ports (COM & LPT).
You can right click each port to identify which one is the USB to
serial adapter.

If the COM# is greater than 4, you must reduce the number.

Once you have the USB adapter in the COM1 to COM4 range, run
Heavyweather, click Setup button, and change Heavyweather to use than
COM port.

I have seen a few DIY articles myself. The main idea that we were
kicking around (myself and Jon Golubieski) was to use off the shelf
inexpensive parts to construct the weather station. This would save a
lot of time of energy over attempting to construct your own station and
console.

A few other requirements are:

1) Real-time. There is no sense producing a custom weather station when
you can buy a complete La Crosse for under $80.

2) Accurate. The station sensors would need to be better than the low
end stations and comparable (if not better) than a Davis VP.

3) Logging. It would need to support PC-less operation using on board
memory. The greater the logging capability the better.

4) Expandable. Users should be able to add whatever sensors they want in
the future like UV, solar radiation, multiple temperature and humidity
sensors.

5) Wireless capability. Ideally the PIC controller could have it's own
Wifi transceiver. If it has Wifi, it might be able to upload directly to
weather severs without the need for a PC. There is a unit out there that
can do this with existing weather consoles. I forget the name of it but
can find it if you are interested. They use an open source router to do
this.

---

Inexpensive off the shelf sensors:

---

Wind direction sensor:

http://www.inspeed.com/wind_speed_direction/Vane.asp

Interface: 3 wire flying leads. Supply voltage 4.5 to 5.5 VDC
Current 15 mA typical Output 5% to 95% of input voltage.

---

Wind speed sensor:

http://www.inspeed.com/anemometers/Vortex_Wind_Sensor.asp

Interface:

Simply reed switch. 1 pulse per rotation. 2.5 mph per Hz.

---

La Crosse TX-10 Rain Sensor:

http://www.greatbigoutlet.com/shopexd.asp?id=157

Simple reed switch. 1 pulse per tip.

---

We had not picked out a barometer. It might be a challenge to find a
good one with .01 Inhg accuracy. They are not cheap from what I have
seen.

The thought was to use a PIC controller with a few digital inputs (wind
speed sensor, rain bucket) and several 0-5V inputs (wind direction,
barometer, temperature, humidity).

Possible alternative sensors would be solar radiation and UV (expensive
sensors from what I have seen).

The PIC controller would probably be something like this:

http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8627

Sparksfun has all kinds of small PIC boards. That one is nice because it
has plenty of flash (for data logging) and a USB interface to the P/C.
It says it has 10 GPIO (general purpose I/O, a mix of analog and
digitals).

You might touch base with Jon ("Jon Golubiewski" <nh4x4jeep@...>)
to see if he has been making any progress with the project.

I can help out with the design, especially where data logging and the
interface to the PC.

Mike,

If it is a 2300,

Here is what I found in the manual:

Resetting the MIN/MAX records
While in the minimum or maximum mode, the time and dates are also displayed along with the recorded values. If the MINUS (-) key is pressed while any of these values are displayed, that particular mini-mum or maximum record will be reset to current reading together with the current time and date with the exception of the following:
The first case is Rainfall Total, which has neither maximum nor minimum records since it will show only the total rainfall. Pressing the MINUS (-) key will reset the rainfall total value to zero and the time recording to current time.
The second case is Rainfall 24h or 1h, which records maximum rain count only for these respective times. Pressing the MINUS (-) key in either of these two modes will reset the rain count to the current rain count and time and date.
The third case is wind speed, which will only reset the recorded time to current time when the MINUS (-) key is pressed

The procedure to reset you rain total is as follows:

1) Goto tweak screen, check disable all rainfall reporting.

2) Exit WUHU.

3) Run Heavyweather to reset rain total.

4) Exit Heavyweather

5) Run WUHU.

6) Let the station get it's first update then go to tweak screen,
un-check disable all rainfall reporting.

Usually we use the console's rain total as the yearly rain total.
Therefore we only reset it on 1-1.

That's the one. :) The final cost was quite a bit more than what you
would pay for a Lacrosse, but accuracy costs money so you'll have to
decide which is more important. The mesh network is a really nice
solution if you need to locate sensors in many locations around your
property.

I just downloaded the lastest version and read the revision log while

Added the how to publish a webpage, csv to the FAQ section
Updated the Main App dialog to include what the show button does as well as *

Another tip I forgot about, you must allow ActiveX controls to run
under Vista, as far as I know, that is not the default.
Google 'Vista ActiveX Controls' for instructions on how to allow
ActiveX under Vista.

The only complication was that WUHU had to be given permission to
access it's program folder (c:\program files\wuhu).
You might have to give it permission to write to other directories
like c:\heavyweather\ if you are outputting a currdat.lst or template
files.

I'm wondering if there is a need/want (out of the 900+ members here) to
have a "Beginners' Guide to wuhu" group where one of you guru's might
answer very basic questions for us. After searching, apparently this is
the only group devoted to wuhu.

From reading the posts here, it is obvious that most of you have a
basic (or beyond) grasp of the software. However, I am "lost".

Could all you "newbies" like me please respond to this post indicating

I get a lot of emails from Newbies who are reluctant to post in to the
group.

As far as I am concerned, there are no questions that are too simple
for the group.

There are several experienced users that are using features that 95%
of the group will not however there are plenty of others who like to
keep it simple and just upload data.

So don't be shy about posting comments and questions.

Greg,

Thanks for the compliments.

I looked through there the other day. I was amazed at the extent of
the changes over a period of a couple years.

It seems like there were more changes and enhancements to the software
than there are features of the software!

Hey Warren,

Don't worry.  We are here to help you out.

If you have any questions, defiantly feel free to toss them out there. This is defiantly a group of awesome people that use this software.
Like the moderator said, no question is a dumb question, unless it is not asked.  We all have to learn some how.

Also, I wouldn't base WUHU on the user manual, as it just started to take form.  I am the author of the manual and one of the techie types so I KNOW I have over looked some of the obvious things in the manual.

I would personally love to have your feed back on the manual!  It is important to me to make it readable for everyone.

Feel free to load it, play with it, it is a small, very awesome piece of code that is very well written.

As a newbie that just joined this group, I first went through all the file sections, links, searched on the messages for the key word newbie before I asked questions.  I found little that helped me in any of these sections as a newbie.

But I did find when I asked questions people jumping in and answer all my questions and pointing me in the right directions.  I never felt put down by this group but encouraged to jump in, which I did, my La Crosse system is ordered, old notebook computer is set aside and I am ready to go once the stuff comes (hope it makes it before we leave for a business trip to Egypt, want to watch weather at my Florida home via the net.)

Though this group has been extremely helpful, a basic newbie file that takes you through some knowledge would be very helpful.  It doesn’t need to be long and may only be a list of links pointing to information, wikis etc.

Hello, I am a happy WUHU user. I have a couple of (very minor) nits,
regarding version 1.0.216.56:

1) in the Action/Alarm Configuration screen: "Enable Audible Alerts" is
misspelled;
2) I believe the "Rate (Hr)" figure is calculated over the entire period
selected.
This is a bit misleading, since the period can be quite large (e.g.
72 hours).
I think it would be more intuitive if the hourly rate of change
was based on the most recent hour, regardless of the period.
This has a bearing on Next Hour and 3-Hour projections, as well.

It may be that I am missing something regarding this column--which is
quite possible.

H, for some reason my current rainfall total in WUHU does not reset
when I reset it to 0.00 on the console. It used to. It now just stays
at the previous 2.00. I've tried pretty much everything, including
turning off/on disable rainfall, turning off/on calculate 1hr 24 hr
rainfall, turning off/on WUHU, and turning off/on computer. any ideas?
