Howdy, I've installed a Davis Vantage Pro2 for my mom and purchased the
WeatherLink software and attachment to hook it up to the computer via USB.
Seems to be working fine, except for the connection to WUHU. She WAS using at
LaCrosse station hooked up via serial cable on COM1. Now that I've switched it
to USB, there isn't really a COM associated with it and it seems to be required
(when selecting the Davis Vantage Pro2 on the WUHU software, it still wants a
COM selected). Does that make sense? If so, how do I associate the new station
with the WUHU software on her computer when using a USB connection? Thanks for
any insight!

It should have a comport assigned to it by windows. Its more than likely
com 3. Thats how I use WUHU with my Vantage Vue. I don't even both with
the Weatherlink software since WUHU can upload data to many different sites.

That is true, and beware that this new virtual com port will not show up in the
device manager (where you figure out the number) unless the device is plugged
in.

I have it in Startup on my XP machine and it always minimizes to the tray automatically.  Not sure if there's a setting that makes that happen but it always has done just that.

First - I'm new to the group. Just purchased the 2810 from Costco. I'm replacing a Oregon Scientific 968 - The anemometer keeps going out and requiring a trip up on the roof - not good in winter . Replacement anemometer is $75. A new weather station that has received good reviews is $80. Went with the replacement.

Anyway - browsing the group and I'm learning a bunch. I do have a couple of questions, though.

First, is there any way to have the Heavy Weather minimize to the system tray? I really don't want it sitting there running all the time. And, with the kids, it will get shut down regularly.

Second - is there any way to utilize the dll used for the wireless dongle to have wuhu send weather data without using Heavy Weather? It is located at C:\Program Files\HeavyWeatherWV5\sHID.dll

Also, here's the current station online.

For what it's worth, my Vantage Pro2 is on COM 7.  You may have to just adjust the COM setting until you find out where it landed on your computer.

Hi Gang:

Over the past day or so I started getting WUHU log hits that my rain total is suspect (every 3 seconds!) in that it says 1.43 inches detected when average rain total is 41.53 inches (over past 10 minutes).  I took my rain bucket off and noticed a little dirt on the collector cups, but nothing out of the ordinary, but the error remains.  When I first noticed it I thought our Texas Blizzard yesterday may have caused it to stick, but it is beautiful outside today (and above freezing) so I woudl think it should have settled out.

Any ideas?  The system has worked flawlessly since I got it in March.

Did you happen to reset your rain total?

You should do this when resetting the total:

1) Enter tweak screen, check disable all rainfall reporting.
2) Save settings button.
3) Reset the rain total.
4) Wait for an update from console.
5) Go back in to tweaks, un-check disable all rainfall reporting.
6) Click save settings button.

A newer version of WUHU will automatically detect the reset rain total and will assume that the new total is the truth.

I am guessing that somehow your console rain total was accidentally reset, about
1.43 inches of rain ago.

The messages are design to prevent spurious bogus data from getting in to your
history locally and on the weather servers.

Eventually it will give up and accept the new data, be it right or wrong.

I guess that would depend on your definition of "inexpensive".  I recently replaced my 2317 with an OS WMR968 but at $200 that might not be inexpensive.  You should be able to get another LaCrosse for no more than $100.

Go to www.greatbigoutlet.com you will have to buy everything seperately, but you can put together a 2300 system together pretty cheap.

Hi all

I’m a brand new WUHU user and am running into a problem with my La Crosse WS-2355 I thought someone here might have been able to assist with.

My Weather Station only arrived on Friday and with the help of a friend we set it up yesterday.  I’m a newbie!

I’m using the wireless option to get the signal back from the Thermo-Hygro sensor at the back of the house to my base station at the front of the house.

I left it going all night and looking at my Weather Underground site (http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=IVICMTHE3) it recorded fine except for the period 00:23 – 04:03 local, then recorded fine with not intervention from me from 04:03 until 09:25 then stopped again. I reset it by removing the batteries from the sensor unit and replacing them then pushing the PLUS button for 5 seconds until it beeped.  Still nothing.  I took the base unit out next to it to check it was a range issue and no change, reset again and it recorded fine from 11:35 to 11:46 but since then nothing (it’s now 13:00 local).

The outside temp, dewpoint and wind all show the ---- but yet looking at Heavy Weather, the HF Reception is lighting up red as it if is receiving the signal fine.

No matter what I do, I can’t seem to reset it and have it record consistently.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Regards

Mark

Jaye,

Yes it will work with this beta(test) version of WUHU.  I have this unit and like the large display butttt...the wind sensor died and had to be returned to La Crosse.  Other than that it seems to be quite accurate compared to more expensive stations. I really like the totally wireless system.

But is the 2810 able to talk to WUHU?

The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that you are on the outer
edge of the range of the receiver. Once it loses contact with the base, after 3
attempts, the remote goes offline until you re-sync.

If possible, run wired mode or move the sensor closer to the console.

Keep the console away from the computer, as much as possible, and away from
sources of noise like monitors.

If possible have the back of the console face the remote thermo in an upright
position.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,and welcome
Try to put your console near to out -remote temp/hum sensor ,for you see if you
have external data.
Make before a foul reset put out the batteries and from console ,and from remote
sensor ,and put again but FIRST to out remote sensor and AFTER to console.

If you have signal, must you have console more closer to out remote sensor.

Make all this and tell us your results

Best regards from Greece

I have a Davis Weather Monitor II which I use to send data to Weather
Underground. About 0500 this morning it quit sending data. When I looked at
the error log, it said "communications error or invalid/corrupt data retrieved
from console". It's on a dedicated laptop with a pcmcia serial port adapter. I
rebooted the computer, changed adapters, upgraded the WUHU program, even changed
the console, all to no avail. Each time I start the program it opens the port,
reads the archive and sends one set of data, then launches into its
"communications error" routine. The really strange thing is, I can close WUHU
and open WeatherLink and it reads everything just fine. I close WeatherLink,
open WUHU, same song, second verse.

Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on?
Thanks
Jerry

In Vista [as well as Windows 7] The program data directory is created during
install. On my Win7 disk it is "D:\ProgramData" Whether there is a space or not
doesn't matter. No need to change it.

The reason you would want to know if there is a space or not is if you are
manually entering the path and file name in to and edit box.
