What are the symptoms? how soon does the software crash after starting it ? What
weather station make/model ?
I'm using a WS2350 with Win7 64bit pro on a Revo R3610 with 4Gb memory. The PC
locks up and no messages are displayed in the logs. This may occur randomly
after a couple of days or a week, but may be due to my cat wandering around the
back of the TV and upsetting the cables or even sitting on the WS console.

More than likely the root cause of the problem is the use of USB to serial
adapters.

Since the inception of USB itself, the drivers for these devices are notorious
for defects. From causing blue screens (kernel level crashes) to software
application lock-ups, they have plagued the Windows user community for years.

Finding a good adapter is not easy to do, the software driver is as critical has
the hardware itself. The USB to serial adapters with the Prolific chip sets,
that support real RS-232 voltage levels (+/- 12vdc), seem to produce the best
results.

While I cannot vouch for the IOGear adapters under Windows 7, they are very
reliable on XP systems. Like any software related issue, especially device
drivers, it is the luck of the draw as to whether or not the driver is well
written. Unless software / hardware vendor are swamped with complaints,
complaints that are nearly impossible to demonstrate, they will do nothing to
address these issues.

Frankly, I do not have the time or inclination to investigate problems when a
USB to serial adapter is used. As a software developer for over 25 years, I have
come to the conclusion that most of the adapters out there are junk, either
because of the hardware or software, and I avoid them whenever possible.

If you invest the money in a real serial port and install it in your machine, a
port made by a respectable company (not Chinese junk for $5), I will more than
happy to investigate issues that you have.

Hi,

I've got a 2308 working at home, and have loaded the heavyweather 2.0 beta.
It appears to be getting data from the weatherstation just fine. How do I
publish that to weather underground?

Dick,

You should be able to pick a good brand name one up at newegg.com for under $30.
You might get one that has a couple of ports for future use.

Let me know if you obtain one and we will go from there. I will solve whatever
problems you see after that.

Thanks.

First you need to have an account on Weather Underground. Once you have an
account, you need to create a personal weather station under your account there
that includes things like your latitude and longitude, zip code, etc.

Once you have the station account created, you will use the same account name
and password that you use to log in to the Weather Underground page.

Next download an install WUHU. It should detect your setup and display the
weather data.

After you have WUHU collecting data (or choose to not run HW and use WUHU in
direct serial mode), you can then hit the Stop button, enter your Weather
Underground account information, user name and case sensitive password, then hit
start.

If everything is functional at that point, your station data should appear
within 24 hours if not sooner.

Let us know if you get stuck.

Best way to get Lacrosse 2310 to work with Windows 7 Professional which allows
XP emulation. I'm using a WS2350 and could not get it to work with the basic
Windows 7 (Home) edition. You won't need to use the Heavy Weather software if
you have a Prolific USB to serial adapter.

Sorry for the confusion. I am running a LaCrosse 2310 station and my Win 7 computer is running "HeavyWeather Pro 3610" software which I assumed incorrectly to be a later version of "HeavyWeather". I now see that "Heavyweather Pro 3610" is for later Lacrosse Weather stations and, therefore, not compatable with my 2310 station. So I will install "Heavyweather"
on the Win 7 machine and try that but I seem to remember that "HeavyWeather" and "Heavy-
WeatherUploader/WeatherUnderground" can't run at the same time.So maybe I'll have to look around for some other software to get data from the 2310 station on to my 64 bit Win 7 machine.
I added a Startech dual serial port card to the Win 7 computer which my LaCrosse 2317 station is using via com port 5 and functioning normally with Weather Underground / Heavy-
WeatherUploader. Device Manager indicates com port 6 is working normally.

I would suggest that you don't use HeavyWeather at all, and only use WUHU with direct serial to your WS2310.

I'm using Win 7 Pro (32-bit) and the WS2316 in direct serial (via a USB, surprise, surprise), and I don't get any lock-ups at all, and everything plays nice.

I noticed that you signed off with "  knylockp2 " --- when you're setting up Wunderground, remember that the correct ID is in all Caps and would be "KNYLOCKP2" ... this is a common error with new users.  The Password is, of course, case sensitive.

For all interested. I gave up half a year now my 2 year old La Crosse 3600. Now I use an older modell 2300 and still using Heavy Weather 3600 to save data on it.
I use WUHU in direct serial mode (no USB) and Heavy Weather in passive mode (not active) only to have a data base with graphics and all. It works like a charm... perfectly.
I advice you to do the same.
Greetings, Eugen Radu, Oradea, Romania.

Sorry for the confusion. I am running a LaCrosse 2310 station and my Win 7 computer is running "HeavyWeather Pro 3610" software which I assumed incorrectly to be a later version of "HeavyWeather" . I now see that "Heavyweather Pro 3610" is for later Lacrosse Weather stations and, therefore, not compatable with my 2310 station. So I will install "Heavyweather"
on the Win 7 machine and try that but I seem to remember that "HeavyWeather" and "Heavy-
WeatherUploader/ WeatherUndergrou nd" can't run at the same time.So maybe I'll have to look around for some other software to get data from the 2310 station on to my 64 bit Win 7 machine.
I added a Startech dual serial port card to the Win 7 computer which my LaCrosse 2317 station is using via com port 5 and functioning normally with Weather Underground / Heavy-
WeatherUploader. Device Manager indicates com port 6 is working normally.

I am a bit confused, you have both the 3610 and 2310 weather stations? The WS-3610 software works on Windows 7 but the software for the WS-2310 station does not work on Windows 7?

What software are you using to communicate with the WS-2310?

Real serial ports or USB to serial adapters?

I hope someone can offer some help to a newbie.

I set up the WUHU 216_32_B67 software and indicated the location of the
records.txt file. WUHU never updates. The log indicates that it's monitoring
the file.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you verified the location of records.txt on your hard drive and whether or
not the file is being updated?

Perform a search of your entire hard drive, once you locate the records.txt,
check the "last modified" date associated with the file. As I recall it should
update about once per minute (although it could be as high as 5 mins, I cannot
recall).

If you still have problems, let us know.

That's one of the things I checked early on. The file is being updated and the
path/filename is set correctly in the General Settings section.. The file is in
a subdirectory of the capture software, not a wuhu subdirectory. Would that
make a difference?

Thanks again!

The file can be located anywhere as long as it is on the local hard drive (not a
mapped network drive for example).

Did you manually enter the path to the file or did you hit the browse button to
select the file? It is best to browse for it rather than manually as it is easy
to enter a double space for example.

Did you hit the Start button after configuring WUHU?

I just installed WUHU this weekend and think it is a terrific piece of software.

I have a lacrosse 2810 that is my main WUHU reporter.

I also have a Honeywell TE831W plugged into the same machine.

May I install a second WUHU to report the Honeywell or will that bollix things
up? When I tried to switch WUHU over from the La Crosse to the Honeywell I got a
bunch of OVFL indicators in Current column. It was not happy at all.

Here is a line from the Honeywell RECORDS.txt:

You can install multiple copies, just make sure they are not writing to the same
history or template files if you are using those features.

You will see OFLs in the column data until an update is written by the host
software.
