Dimitris,

Before following the below, hit Stop on WUHU so that it is not
attempting to process templates while you are making changes.

Since you are wanting to process multiple template files, I would
recommend creating an action file. Action files allow you to process
multiple templates and other commands, one per line.

To use an action file, would would enter the following line in to the
action on activation:

actionfile:"C:\ActionList.txt"

Open notepad. Enter the following lines:

template:"D:\inputzwntana.txt" "D:\zwntana.txt"
template:"D:\mynewtemplate.txt" "D:\mynewtemplateoutput.txt"

Save this file to C:\ActionList.txt

Create a new Notepad file, enter the following:

%[daily_extremes]low_outdoor_temperature_deg_C%
%[daily_extremes]high_outdoor_temperature_deg_C%
%[daily_extremes]low_outdoor_humidity%
%[daily_extremes]high_outdoor_humidity%
%[daily_extremes]low_outdoor_dewpoint_deg_C%
%[daily_extremes]high_outdoor_dewpoint_deg_C%
%[daily_extremes]low_outdoor_relative_pressure_hpa%
%[daily_extremes]high_outdoor_relative_pressure_hpa%

Save this file to C:\mynewtemplate.txt

Press start on WUHU to resume processing.

After an update, the following files should be created:

D:\zwntana.txt
D:\mynewtemplateoutput.txt

"...a file from notepad name "D:\minmaxoutput.txt"

You want to put the contents in to "D:\minmax.txt" rather
than "D:\minmaxoutput.txt".

D:\minmax.txt is the input template file, D:\minmaxoutput.txt will be
the resulting output file.

I need some basic hand-holding to get my uploads going. It's probably
something simple that I've overlooked or mistyped. I have the
following entered in Heavyweather Beta version:

Server www.wunderground.com

User KNCFRANK11

Password (entered correctly)

Target
www.weatherunderground.com/weatherstation/wxdailyhistory.ASP?
ID=KNCFRANK11

File C:\heavyeather\HWP\data\currdat.lst

I've also tried to figure out how to run in Direct Serial mode and
not use the HW software, but I can't find the Stop button on the WUHU
page.
When I test with HW, the info does show up on their test site.

I haven't hooked up the wind and rain sensors yet, maybe this weekend.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I did a search on 2310
and "upload", but couldn't find the basic info I think I need.

Thanks,

Howard

I bought the PCI based Boltek detector, though I'm having a hard time
recalling the model number. There was a link to it and another
standalone Boltek detector with computer interface on Weather
Underground somewhere, but right now I'm not finding it and I don't
have any other info on me at the moment (probably on the laptop that
died).

I'll provide better details once I get a chance to get back home and
maybe get everything back on line before heading out again.

Howard,

I believe you are attempting to use Heavyweather Publisher to upload to weather underground, that will not work. Heavyweather Publisher is intended to upload graphic images to an FTP site. Weather Underground does not receive images to retrieve the weather data from your station.

What you need to do is install the WUHU application available for download here:

http://home.comcast.net/~wuhu_software/files/WUHU215_32.zip

Run the install.exe application within the .zip file to install WUHU.

After you run WUHU, you should see where to enter your Weather Underground user ID and password.

To use direct serial, see the general settings on the main WUHU screen. Once you select direct serial, to the right you specify the serial port the console is attached to. If you use Direct Serial, shutdown Heavyweather.

After you have made your changes, hit the Start button on the main WUHU screen.

Let me know if you need more help after you install WUHU.

Richard,
Iwas just checking to see what brand you bought. Boltex seems to be
the most common.
I would love to have one, but a bit pricey for me right now.
Will be interested to see how it works for you when you get back up
and running.
Heck out there you can see the lightning coming from a hundred miles
away ! LOL

Closer to 150 miles actually! ;-)

There was one night where I had continuous cloud-to-cloud lightning
straight above me on down south into Colorado, then cloud-to-ground
from there 150 miles east into Nebraska and Kansas. Quite freaky!

This will allow me to get a better idea which way it's heading!
Lightning detection has been a bit more active in my area, but the
accuracy is still about 40 or more miles off due to the fact the
closest cluster of detectors seems to be based around Denver.

Also on the list of things to do is yet another weather radio gain
antenna so I can spool the Southern Nebraska Panhandle weather radio
for some friends of mine out that way -- three states from one location!

Richard,
I loved being able to see what was coming when I lived out there.
I got many a great pic of T-storms & lightning.
I took timelapse of some of the storms, that came out really nice.
I remember watching the storms and looking for that special, greenish
color glow in the clouds that would indicate hail was on it's way.
Many a friend was amazed when I would predict the hail, by looking at
the clouds.
Only saw one small tornado though !

All,

I know we had some discussions in the past about radiation shielding
and other stuff relating to Lacrosse systems. I purchased a
manufactured gill plate shield (like the flower plot shields) and
added a fan to it awhile back and was still seeing data that was good
but not as good as I wanted it to be. I went out and purchased 4-inch
PVC pipe fittings (two 90 degree elbows and four 45 degree elbows)
and pieced them together. I have a 80mm DC powered fan that is
adjustable up 4800rpm (75.7 CFM) that I installed in one side to
exhaust the air. The temp sensor sits in the top portion of the tube
and the ambient air is pulled in and over the sensor. This system
works fantastic. I get awesome readings now. THe PVC pipe is glossy
and reflects the light pretty well. The fan pulls tons of air so I
know I am getting good ambient air over the sensor. The fan is ran
on a lawn tractor battery and also is hooked up to 1.5 amp trickle
charger so I get 24-hour aspiration. My readings now are pretty much
right on w/ the NWS station a mile away and the only downfall is the
afternoon when my backyard goes shaded because of the green belt.
Even then I am only 1-3 degrees lower. Otherwise, I track with most
all of the stations around for most of the day and night.

Total cost for system:

Pipe: $25
Battery: $25
Charger: $30
Station: $80

I have uploaded pics of my station and design to our file folder
located here under Chronarch33.

If anyone has any questions or anything feel free to ask.

Very nice set-up. Thanks for sharing, I might just give it a try.

You said you put the temp sensor in the top?

Any particular reason for placing it their instead of at the inlet?

Thanks again for sharing and the nice photo's to go along with it.

Steve,

The sensor is up in the top because it can just sit up there on it's
own platform without having to mount it to anything. The sensor is
hanging off the edge a bit so the sensor opening is in the airstream
flowing over it. I added another picture looking up the pipe on that
side so you can see the sensor sitting in there. With the amount of
air flow the fan I have pulls through there I do not think it would
matter where inside the sensor goes. There may be another slight
reason to put it up there as well. There may be some solar radiation
reflection off the ground that may hit the sensor as well. Not sure
if it would change much?

I also got the pipe at Lowe's. Got the battery at Wal Mart and the
charger at Auto Zone. The 75 CFM fan was purchased at Fry's for $12.
Most of the fans I was seeing would only pull 7-20 CFM. That would
still probably work for this application but I wanted to get
something powerful and adjustable so I could play with the airflow.
So far I have only ran it at the most powerful setting, which equates
to nearly 1000 fpm. The Davis stations run at about 180 fpm when the
sun is out.

Thanks for the additional picture and explaination. Is the fan just
press fit in?
Ever think of putting some screens on both ends to keep the critters
out?

When I tired my various aspirated shields I used a wall wart for the
DC fan and put it on a timer as I did not see a need for aspirating 24
hours a day.

Thanks Again,
Steve

Nice.

Where'd the fan come from and how much?

Have you thought of using Solar for charging the battery? I'm planning on
doing the same thing myself. Right now, the solar panel just runs the
fan--would like to get a battery for 24 hour runtime.

Also, where do you keep the battery stored? (wonder if it's a problem if
the battery's in an enclosed space?

Steve,

The fan is just the standard 80mm computer size. It fits pretty well
within the 4-inch PVC pipe with a little bit of pressure and tugging
at the sides of the PVC. The PVC is slightly flexible. I had some
plumbers putty along the edges to seal it but it was overkill. It
still works just fine without it.

I was defintely thinking about adding some screens as the beetles and
spiders love to make the nooks in anything their home.

I like the idea of 24-hour aspiration just to keep the system in the
same conditions all the time.

Karl,

The fan was bought at Fry's for $13. It is a thermaltake brand. 80mm
and 1300-4800 rpm adjustable.

I had a 5-watt solar panel at first with the battery. Since my yard
goes shaded about 1pm the charge was not enough to keep the battery
going through the night after about 3 days. I ditched the solar
shield and got the 1.5 amp trickle charger so it keeps it charged and
running all the time. If you have tons of sun then I would think a
small battery should work great to keep it running at night. Depends
also on how much your fan draws. Mine is pretty powerful so it can
drain pretty quick.

I keep the battery and charger in one of those plastic tubs with a
lid to keep the rain out. It is not air tight because of the cords
going in so air is able to get in and out. I need to check to see if
this is a bad idea or not. Not sure of the implications of keeping a
battery in this type of condition. Hopefully, it does not explode or
something!!

Hello all. I have just follwed the procedure WUHU author detailed in a
thread to Petros on making Mim/Max templates. My log says template
error,an error occured while processing line 1.
Template="C:\Heavyweather\inputfile.htm" ,Destination "C:\Heavyweather\
outputfile.htm"

I followed the procedure outlined in the thread but it didn't say
where to store the created files.?. Were these supposed to be created
within WUHU's config. settings, Heavyweather or just anywhere on the
system disc within a folder?

I appreciate any assistance with this matter. Sincerely, Denver

Denver -

WUHU or someone else can probably give you better helps, but for
starters take the comma and destination out of that line and it should
put that file in HeavyWeather folder as you have set it up -

Template:"C:\Heavyweather\inputfile.htm" "C:\Heavyweather\
outputfile.htm"

problems to the puzzle. I put the line in as you suggested but the
WUHU log shows the line I posted, with destination and the comma in
it.??. So, I'm really puzzled. The line in the Log looks more like
an explanation of the problem. It is possible that I somehow didn't
send it to the right destination; I may have accidentally sent it to
the WUHU folder instead of Heavyweather.?.

I'll redo the process and see what happens. I'll let you know.

Denver,

Mine looks like:

template:"D:\vws\wuhu\templates\hourly.txt" "c:\vsw\weather.lissproductions.com\hourly.asp"
template:"D:\vws\wuhu\templates\template.txt" "c:\vsw\weather.lissproductions.com\template.asp"
template:"D:\vws\wuhu\templates\wxsticker.txt" "c:\vsw\weather.lissproductions.com\wxsticker\data.csv"

I think the comma is goofing you up.  Remove the ",Destination" from your line.

denver_lee2001 sat down at the console on 9/10/2007 8:53 AM and madly banged out:

That did it! There was a minor problem of my not having WinZip on
this computer, so I had to buy it, download it and then download the
WUHU software. There was also a minor "senior moment" here when I
forgot that the wind speed/direction had to be hooked up. After
that, all is well. Thanks again for the guidance.
