Cool stuff. Updates every 15 minutes, and has a long ways to
go for completion. Not a heck of a lot of lighting going on tonight, but some
storm over the Atlantic at some distance (perhaps even Europe)
is cranking out some lighting.

Mark, Nice new hobby ! So how are you going to get Triangulate in on
the lightning? Are you intending to set up your own network to accept
the signals from all over?
Will you pick up signals from the existing lightning detection network?
Again, very interesting, would like to see the detector that you built
for under $200.

Some time back, someone asked whether the "observation / METAR" data
could be automatically entered. I have found in my part of the
country that both an HTML and a TXT file are available from the NWS
that should be fairly easily parsed.
These files are located:
http://www.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KVJI.htmlhttp://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/METAR/KVJI_sum.txt
These particular reports are updated every 20 minutes. And I'm only
interested in the Vis, weather, and sky fields.
Wish I still remembered any of my programing. I'd love to automate
the METARs and make the WUHU program complete.
Any hope in getting this added to the program (he asked hopefully)?
jdbailey,
Is the purpose to send METAR observations to WU?
What programming languages do/did you use?
Thanks.

I wanted to make a wind direction plot using jpgraph if possible that
comes out looking like what weather display makes.....starting from
the center make lines coming out showing wind speed and direction,
like a radar plot sort of thing but I am not sure how I would go about
it. I am fairly decent at jpgraph but I cannot seem to figure out how
to make something like this.
I would appreciate any help or ideas anyone may have.
Thanks,

I think
my WC2315 has lost it wind instrument for good and I started getting “Failed
to retrieve weather data…” even though Heavy Weatheris still logging BP and Temp data.
I clicked on “Show
Comm errors” and it is complaining about Wind Dir being “---.-“,
so is there any way to disable the wind check (of course not send it)?

Select disable wind sensor under the Tweak screen until you can fix
the sensor.

I am
going to pretend that your solution was not in version 146 that I upgraded to
215 from (yeah… I am a slow adopter) and not cry any more about the lost
uploaded data. L
BTW, I just saw the altimeter tweak. I
seem to be within +/- 2 mb of all my surrounding stations on CWOP. Am I guess
that I am set right for that? (i.e. no tweak?)
As luck would have it I seem to have fixed
it (for now…I must have a short). I now have that option in mind in case
this is not a permanent fix.

I'm trying to figure out just what is meant by setting the Relative
Pressure setting on my WS3600
I am at 1500 ft abouve sea level. This apparently has something to do
with the setting.
The display reads a relative setting and an absolute setting on the
WS3600. So what should I actually set the devices setting to -
supposing that I am actually supposed toset it.
thanks
Robert
Adding to my first post. I forgot to mention that I am using hPa, and
1500ft is actually 457.2 meters.
the atm = 1013.25 hPa
the altitude = 457.2 meters
Currently my Ws3600 relative pressure is set to 1013.25 - obviously not
correct.
Now, I found a post that gives this deal in imperial measurements.
Pressure drops .001 inHg / Foot of altitude
So 1500 feet = 1.5 inHg
and if I multiply this by 33.86 to get hPa = 50.79.
So - I should subtract this from 1013.25, which equals 962.86
Now this is odd, because the WUHU software is reporting an Absolute
pressure that ranges around this.
So - Do I actually set the Relative Pressure on the WS3600 to the
962.86 setting - and then everything else falls into place ?
well - lets suck it and see :-)

Ricc,
What does the data look like when you graph the data from within WUHU?

Robert,
Yes, you need to set the relative pressure on the console itself.
Where are you obtaining the relative pressure for your area?
Check on Weather Underground for a station that is near you.

Now this is where I find a problem with this unit -
The unit is reading absolute pressure which is the atmospheric pressure at my Altitude 250Ft above sea level(Or so the instructions claim), the Airfield next to us(Also at 250ft above sea level) from which I fly is reading a higher Atmospheric pressure than the unit. To set the relative pressure to sea level for example I should be increasing by about 8Hpa(1 Hpa per 30 feet altitude) as obviously there is more pressure at sea level.
However as I know the unit is not reading the correct Absolute pressure and I cannot calibrate it to do so, all I can assume is changes in pressure up or down - the accuracy is not good.
So what I am saying shanghai_bob_dog is that while your calculation is correct for you at 1500m altitude - the pressure would only be correct if the absolute pressure you are subtracting from was the pressure at sea level
So what you have to do is find out exactly what the pressure is at your altitude and set this as the relative pressure - ignoring what the absolute pressure is saying as this is pre set and will stay fixed relative to your "relative" pressure.
My head hurts

Now this is strange. Something is horribly worng.
HeavyWeather works fine, from the WS3600 console.
But WUHU last night decided to stop working. With the above error. And
of course it refuse to resolve. I have tried moving to COM2. no good.
Move back to COM1 - no good. These are jus standard COM ports -and as I
mentioned, if I stop WUHU and start HeavyWeather, it reads the comports
with no problem - so it doesn't appear to be hardeare related.
I completly uninstalled WUHU, and reinstalled it. nada.
so, any ideas anyone ?
thanks heaps
Robert
