Dear wwwsifters,
If you have tried out the WWW Search Interfaces for Translators online at
http://www.multilingual.ch and have found them useful, then you might be
interested in a new technique for automating the search process from within MS
Word.
I have put together a few MS Word macros that allow you to automate the search
process, reducing searching to a single click. All you need to do is highlight a
term in Word and then click on a button to find definitions and translations of
terms that are giving you a hard time.
You can download the macros for free at the following address:
http://www.ticino.com/usr/tanya/ms_word_macros_for_translators.htm
(instructions for installation and details of all the different macros are
provided in the .dot file that you download)
The collection of macros includes other types of macros that translators and
other language specialists might find useful, for example a macro for counting
ALL of the characters in a Word document (i.e. including text in text boxes,
which MS Word blatantly ignores) and preparing a quote for a
translation/proofreading job; a macro for deleting text up to the next full
stop; macros for interrogating free online dictionaries; a terminology
management macro and many more)
If you know of any good free online general-language dictionaries that you use
often and for which you would like a macro created, please contact me.
I'd be interested in hearing how you find these macros and whether they work for
you.
Kind regards,
Tanya Harvey Ciampi (Dipl. DOZ)
