...sometimes I get so angry at myself...
...been trying to come up with different rendering and
lighting routines mostly just to teach myself about
these functions...
...and for the life of me couldn't figure out what it
was that either *I* was missing and/or "what" was
missing in my routines...
...then today while I was messing around with this
render, I looked "up" and "again" at the Picture Page
Icons and saw that for whatever reasons I'd forgotten
about the "mask background" and most importantly...the
"Alpha Fade", and wondered why I hadn't incorporated
these into my routines...
...as my friend Homer would say...
DOH!!!!!!!
...I was already burned out twiddling and tweaking so
I was able to get a few good results...and it made me
wonder how many "good results" I'd passed by/over as a
result of this "senior moment"...
...oh well...ended up with about six or seven nice
variations on this one single render, and will only
bore you with one right now...
Cheers
Bryan

Another layer of design and lighting added to the
previous holon group + some KPT Equalizer. Am
experimenting with the new beta MM styles, clipb,
framez, project, as well as a few others.
Have a good one!

XenoDream (beta)
Applied several applications of 'pits', both +9 and -9.
I made several with different lighting that had some very nice
multi-coloring effects, but only in portions of the whole image. So, in
order to keep the integrity of the pic, I used a more monochromish
method.

'Tis my lot in life to be woefully behind on comments... Suffice to say, I sometime feel as though I reside next door to wonderland, and can visit this beautiful place with only a click of the mouse...
A slight bit of warning: this piece may mess with your eyes a bit. I compressed it as far as I could, without losing too much detail.
XenoDream only. Sorry, this is a heavy one.

...came across this while I was messing with framez
again...
...took the basic single holon motif and using the
magic of infinite iterations...
...reproduced it a zillion times over...
....rendered the blasted thing too much so it didn't
work very well for "non-solid" lighting...so I
punted...

...messing 'round with the framez MM...was trying to
come up with some kind of "console" that I could hang
on a wall for a Bryce scene...
...close, but no bannana...
So, I decided to mess 'round with a plane in the
background, shadows, reflections and what not...ya
know...to try and juice it up an otherwise boring
piece...

Plain ol' XD. (plus a pic)
Rendered a .box MM at 1024, loaded an old Bach.jpg into background (a
small one, so it would tile), set my lighting with reflection/refraction
& checked the box for 'back picture', fiddled with those params plus a
few others such as depth & anything else that made a change.
These reflections look much better on spheres, but the title just
wouldn't work. ;>)

Annie...please excuse me using your picts as an example of something
"obvious/routine" I found myself doing, and stopped to think that
maybe others didn't realize....
I just thought your postings would help demostrate...
...and that is, often when you are doing and/or have finished a
transparency render, and start "testing" various lighting presets to
see what they will look like, and you click on a lighting preset and
it doesn't "do anything", or "looks yucky"...you've got to remember
that the background color which is assigned to the preset is probably
what is causing this to happen...as the color is "bleeding thru" the
transparent render...
...so before you click off the lighting preset and go to another,
change the background color...I usually use a "toned down", "light"
color...
...so, if you are accessing your lighting presets via the "fox" and
lighting preset list, click on OKAY, which should return you to the
Lighting Page, then change the background color from there to see what
it will look like in the Lighting Page Preview Window.
You then can make further adjustments to the background color...and
make other "tweaks" as well...
Annie's picts are great examples of how different background colors
affect the overall look and feel...
Thanks Annie!!!!
Regards
Bryan

I think this one had 4 holons..a few background layers
and lighting layers. Used the new beta MM styles,
clipb, framez, as well as crystal, boxed, spiked and
project. It's a real potpourri. Tried all sorts of
angles but decided in the end to go with the
straight-on. Hadn't done a mandalic image in awhile.
Thanks, Garth, for the new MM styles and the clipping
option.
