Filling them into the tiny space at the bottom of the "Check URL" form seems
pretty cumbersome; some additional "Exclusionlist" file might be helpful.

Yeah, that part sucks. I should replace this with a normal big text box
some day.

>Actually, I have already problems dealing with the 15 or so exclusions I use

there a description of the specifics of this file somewhere? Most of the syntax
can be guessed, but the connection between the [Recent URL List] and the
specific inclusions and exclusions isn't quite clear to me.

No, you should guess :-) [Recent URL List] is for the combo box. There
is also a general include / exclude in the ini file, and there are the
same with an URL in it, these are URL-specific.

My own Xenu.ini file is 300K.

Sure, simply exclude http://purl.org . Maybe I asnwered that last time.

Hello Tilman,
i created a text-file within several URls - each line one URL - and try to check
them via XENU.
Unlikely XENU takes them as starting-pooints and will follow them through the
whole Website(s).
is there any setting to tell XENU only check these pages and the objects which
are directly linked on this page?
Is it possible to limit such type of limitations only on the given text file?

best regards
Wolfgang

"// is always an error when checking remote URLs" but it is able to open the
named page in a browser.

Why does XENU think that is failurable?
Is it possible to configure XENU to ignore such type of error?

This is a global thing, set the max depth in the options.

Because a // will often link to a /// URL, ands that one to a ////
URL... you get the point.

>Is it possible to configure XENU to ignore such type of error?

I see that your site apparently uses the triple / for something....
because http://www.sma.de/de/service/faq/artikel/faq/272.html doesn't
work. I remember that one broken CMS uses these as arguments.

Anyway, I updated the software
http://home.snafu.de/tilman/tmp/xenubeta.zip
so that you can set it in the INI file:

[Options]
CheckDoubleSlash=0

(default is 1)

Thank you Tilman,
it seems to work fine and will help my formerly colleague to create a website
with an higher level of correctness.

Hi,

as far as I see your download tool "Offline Explorer Pro" will download pages from a website. If these are dynamic pages, created by some script (cgi or php or whatever), the respective parameters will be encoded using an "@" in place of the standard "?" and will be treated by "Offline Explorer Pro" as regular files (something like this has to be done to work with them at all, since the scripts themselves are not available for download).
"Offline Explorer Pro" seems to contain a custom service, which will be installed on port 800 to access these files through a standard web browser.
And as far as I see, Xenu will happily check those URLs (for me it is: http://127.0.0.1:800/Standard/www.mathguide.de/cgi-bin/ssgfi/navigator2.pl@db=math_2Ftype=subj) if you start it with the appropriate port and link.

Cheers
Thomas

Yes, but I can browse offline in these files. But I like to check how many and which kind are the files and if there are broken links.

You download something for the web. Thus you don't get php source code,
but the result from the php server, thus normal HTML. So "Offline
Explorer Pro" should rename all these files to .html and also correct
the internal links. Otherwise, that tool is worthless for this case.

That isn't the same, and it isn't a Xenu problem, rather a problem of
setting up your local server. "file:///K:" is your file system.
"http://127.0.0.1:800" is a local web server. First check whether you
can open that URL within a browser. If you can't, then your server
doesn't work (or you don't have any server at all), or you're using the
wrong port.

Ok, so these aren't your files, you just downloaded them from the
internet, from the site that is NSFW, and you want to use Xenu to see if
it is complete. I think the problem is that this "Offline Explorer Pro"
didn't rename them to .html. Look at the options of that software.

can't do anything about it (they query a sluggish library database).

Can I tweak xenu so that it returns a timeout error only after a site took more
than 5 seconds to respond for example ?

I installed the 1.3.9beta and didn't find such an option

Thank you

If OE does not produce .html files but I can browse offline with them. It would be very nice to be able to check such a downloaded website.

I think it would be nice a feature like:  Consider as HTML files the ones like: *.php@*

No, because in your case - if I've understood the problem correctly - it
is another piece of software that is alleged to be broken. You should
contact THEM that they produce .html files. Renaming files is something
they can do, sometimes:

Probably, because OE keeps an internal list of files that have the
text/html MIME type.

>It would be very nice to be able to check such a downloaded website.

You can, if you use the local webserver that OE provides apparently. You
mentioned that you can access them with http://127.0.0.1:800/

>I think it would be nice a feature like: Consider as HTML files the ones like:
*.php@*

Rather not. This would be about one day of work just so that you can
check whether your NSFW download is complete :-) This feature isn't
really something that will help anyone else that you, I think.

local php-files con only be checked using a local webserver because they contain
code-fragment which will be done on the webserver before delivery to local
client (Browser or xenu)

Thank Wolfgang

I downloaded and installed this on my Win 7s: php-5.3.6-nts-Win32-VC9-x86
All it did was put a readme and an ini file in the start menu.
Xenu will; still not check/run a index.php file locally.

Did I goof?

Thanks

Does XENU find the URLs below ore doesnīt?
if it desnīt local webserver may not be started.

If it does and it wonīt be interpreted by webserver, make sure that php-files
are marked for beeing interpreted by php.

Take a look on Tilmanīs FAQ at:
http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html
Question and answer 10.

Yes. IMO, you can't work with php alone, you always need a server.

You should ask questions in a forum or a newsgroup that deals with such
problems (and no, I don't know which one). Or just try it yourself after
reading the web pages from the search below.

Hi Al,

I don't know what kind of a system you're using, but most Windows machines come these days with a preinstalled webserver which only needs to be activated. For your purposes this will do. Check http://digitizor.com/2009/02/20/how-to-install-microsoft-iis-server-on-windows-7/.

With Xenu there are some links that are not spidered (webforms, dynamically
generated links, and links from within stylesheet files).

It would be nice to improve Xenu so these links would be spidered.

Thanks

Hi Tilman,
wehn i sort my searchresult by status, it sorts the result by text:
like this:
ok
ok
server error
skip
the resource is not longer available

unlikely there is no possibillity to order by error-code (there is no column
error-code too)

But links with failures are marled in red.

Is it possible to sort the result by color (=error code)

Since XENU test mailto:-Links, errors will appear very late and it will be very
helpful to group by color

Best regards
Wolfgang
