Hi Al,

This is really weird.

When firefox isn't active -
1) When in the windows explorer you double click on a .HTM file, does it
launch in firefox?
2) When in a dos box you enter a .HTM file with full path at the command
prompt, does firefox launch with the file?
3) Your tmp directory seems to be C:\TMP. Do you run Windows 98 ?

I see that UseDDE=0 did the trick. However, this does also just launch
the file directly, without using the Windows DDE library, which is what
already happens when a DDE error occurs ("DdeGetLastError() = 400a" in
the logfile).

Very strange...

Having looked at the logfile again, I have a doubt whether you did
actually use the new version, or whether I actually uploaded the new
version. I have deleted it for now and will check this tonight and then
reupload it.

Btw I do have my own domains (xenu.de and scientollywood.org) but I keep
the "long" download URL. This is for historic reasons :)

Yes, both shorties, and html/htm files

Yes it did

XP, but I  long ago changed the Environment Variables for tmp & temp manually to.

I'm also "pretty sure" because when you  offered the Beta on the list awhile ago, I went for it.

The contents of the logfile shows that you were using the older beta
version. (You can also look at the date of your xenu.exe file - of
course, before installing the new one).

It would be interesting to know what's in your registry at

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\file

You can export it into a text file with right-mouse-click.

Anyway, the new version should no longer rely on it, even when DDE is
not deactivated in XENU.INI.

Dear all

Checking this website is impossible. I canīt see if is javascript or other language  where do the right xenu setup to do the job. (  I tried the javascript hints already)

Example is always good ( I am not related to ABB  by any means but is well populated with data that company)
http://www.directindustry.com/prod/abb-robotics/medium-payload-articulated-robot-30265-169115.html#prod_169115

IF you click on " welding robot"  you will see a link written on  "More specifications..."
In this case, this link I need to check. ==>  http://www.abb.com/product/seitp327/6c9e8426dd74dfa3c1257129005485bb.aspx

As you will see, not even in the source code appear the link.

The description in the window is crawled by google anyway. here ""ABB robotic welding & joining functionalities guiding you to superior results: Arc Welding; Laser Welding;"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=%22ABB+robotic+welding+%26+joining+functionalities+guiding+you+to+superior+results%3A+Arc+Welding%3B+Laser+Welding%3B+Plasma+Welding%3B+Poke+Welding%3B+Spot+Welding%3B+Stud+Welding%3B+Brazing%22&btnG=Search

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

PS: One of my jobs is to check our partnership with third parties web sites. Usually, I have to check if the links sent to them  are  working. Then I realize that I can use XENU to do the job, much faster than  me.

I need to check webpages that have links back to my site to make sure
that none of these links are broken. I have made a simple html page
with all the first level links. I have tried the 2 methods described
in Frank's manual and they have not worked for me - the only links
that were checked were the first level links.

If anyone has had a similar problem or thinks they know what I am

You would have to add all these first level links to the include list.
Make sure that these links end with "/".

Another solution would be to put all these URLs into a text file, and
then use the "check URL list" feature. Again, make sure that all these
links end with "/".

Thank you Tilman - I had left out the closing \ and now that works fine

I miss a function very much at the Xenu-tool, so well-loved it is in other ways by me:

I would like l to have a list of the related objects like the overview of pages at the end of the report.

This is necessary for references at the copyright etc.

Beautiful would be a result that looks as follows:

Look up for [a Thumbnail would be very beautiful here] bg04.jpg
< td class =: "content" style " background: URL (img/bgs/bg04.jpg) " 04 _agb.php (42) = >

... and so on...

(42) is the line no. in that file

However, it also would work but not so good):

Look: bg04.jpg
04 _agb.php
04 _impressum.php
04 _philosophie.php

Hello all together,

I have read the posts to the topic filtering, but have not found what
I expected. So I want to reach the following:

1. We have a lot of small web sites, that all start with https://
my.own.site/, the web sites themselves are then https://my.own.site/
first https://my.own.site/second ...
2. There are special actions that I want to filter all the time. All
of them have a '?' in the URL for the parameters.
3. I only want to check the consistency of one of the web sites, not
of all.

So the filter should do:
Include: https://my.own.site/first
Exclude: https://my.own.site/[-first]
Exclude: https://my.own.site/*\?*

I have downloaded xenuwild2.zip which allows to specify not only the
beginning, but the whole URL with wild cards.

Is there a way to reach what I want to do with Xenu? It is a fabulous
tool, but without this feature, it would be too dangerous to use it
(https://my.own.site/first/removepage?pageID=xyz).

Bye and thank's for a fine tool

You don't need the wildcard version if you just want to exclude
something that starts with

	 https://my.own.site/first/removepage

The wildcard version does not support "\" or regular expressions. The
best would be to enter

	 *removepage*

in the exclusion list.

Hi Tilman,

nice idea, I will prove if that is sufficient for the dangerous
links. But what about reducing the web site to only one part and
excluding the rest? Any idea how to get that? There should be an
order or match expressions, with rules if they should followed or not.

Like:
Follow not: removepage
Follow: https://my.own.site/first
Follow not: https://my.own.site/

Will that work when I start with: https://my.own.site/first and
include the other two in the "do not check" section? It looks for me
as links to other parts of the web (in which I am not interested in)
are followed as well.

By the way, where is the new version dowloadable?

Bye

if you use the wildcard version, you should add this

exclude:
*removepage*
https://my.own.site/*

include:
https://my.own.site/first*

However it is an obvious contradiction.

>Will that work when I start with: https://my.own.site/first and

I think it doesn't make sense. It won't work, since you are excluding
everything.

A possible solution is to use
https://my.own.site/first/
as start URL. Note the "/" at the end. It will might check
https://my.own.site/rest/ for existance, but won't spider it.

>By the way, where is the new version dowloadable?

http://home.snafu.de/tilman/XENU.ZIP

(this is not the wildcard version)

Bad habit to answer the own questions, but:
- It works now with the hint to include a '/' at the end of starting
point.
- I need the wildcards to exclude *action*, *showComment* ...
- I am able to skip the rest of the web site by giving an exclusion
rule like in my example.

Thank's a lot, and have a nice day :-)

For some reason, your message is dated august 23, and was delivered sept
22. Plus, I haven't understood your wish... If you just want to know who
links to somewhere, press ALT-ENTER in the Xenu window. A
cross-reference of all would be huge; this is the same problem that
exists already with the site map.

Don't know if I answered this. The answer is yes, it does check whether
the file exists.

On www.friedrichsdorf.de each emailaddress will be encrypted.
Either using html-encryption like m for a small 'm' or hexadecimal
%68 for a little ""h".
Both encryption-algorithm cause standard-browsers to open your email-
client an parse the true email-address, unencrypted to it.
Unkīlikely som bots - XENU as well will not be able to ignore these
links whill will always start with "m" on www.friedrichsdorf.de
xenu tries about 175 times to resolve "mailto:&" it will cause no error
because mailto:-linkss will be skipped but it is resloved wrong.
Other search-engines like litefinder try to follow these links.

I see what you mean, you want me to decode these. I tried a change,
which almost worked. But this page
http://www.friedrichsdorf.de/impressum.php

is delivering two different contents:

sometimes with the text
href="mailto:Stadt
sometimes with the text
href="mailto:%53%74%61%64%74%76%65%72%

The first one is incorrect, the second one not. The trouble seems to be
that the ";" is missing after "S". (Can any HTML expert confirm
this?)

You are right. I missed the semicolon after each sign.
But this fact had unlikely no effect on behaviour of 'normal'
Browsers. So tehy didnīt show me an error.
I corrected my encryption-syntax and now XENU deosnīt show this
mailto:& anymore. It was XENU what was correct, not my stuff.
My script delivers two different contents because we try to confuse
Spam-Bots a little bit.

Thx.

It's hard to stop those spambots.

I found a script that helped. Only a bit, I am convinced some spammers have
decrypted it (based on the crap I get to the address compared to many
others).

But combined with your encoding, it might add another level of protection.

Not really a xenu issue, but FYI:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">

user = "warrenvo";
site = "pacbell.net";
subject = "SoccerAudio Feedback";

document.write('<a href=\"mailto:' + user + '@' + site + '?subject=' +
subject + '\">');

   </script>

That's why I wrote the Apache plug-in "mod_spambot".

Thx for your Idea.
But decrypting eMail-Addresses using Javascript does not correspond
to requirement of "Borderfree Internet" (in german Barrierefreie
Websites). This is an official website of a german township. They are
pleased to have a broderfree-website (in context of human handicaps).
Next escalation step will be to hide eMail-Addresses totally and
replace their appearing by a link to a standarded eMail-Formula.

Get the new version (that "decodes" these mailto URLs) here:
http://home.snafu.de/tilman/tmp/xenubeta.zip

Btw, I don't think this is great help against spambots. If I can decode
it, so can they. The best solution for this is either to use the mail as
graphic only, or to have a good junk filter, or to use a form-based
mail.

Hi all,

There was a broken bread crumb link on my site that Xenu did not
catch. It was formatted as follows with no href value...

<a href=''>Hard Rock Tickets</a> (those are two single quotes)

Has any one else had this issue where Xenu does not catch it?

We have Xenu 1.2 Corporate edition.

Thanks in advance!!!
