I spent Monday and Tuesday at JabberCon in Keystone, Colorado.
Yesterday we had a working session where we came up with a new protocol that
combines the encoding of XML-RPC with Jabber as a transport. This protocol
is called Jabber-RPC.
There are several key benefits:
1. Jabber maintains a persistent connection with the server, so it can
tunnel through NAT and firewalls.
2. Jabber interoperates with lots of stuff.
3. The Jabber community is large and productive.
DJ Adams, one of the leading developers in the Jabber community wrote up a
brief outline of protocol.
