I'll clarify a few things about my particular situation...
1. I did suppy an email address the three times I submitted the site
(about two months between each submission)
2. I applied to be an editor of the section in question and received
a rejection in under 12 hours (!) The section in question is
Games:Gambling:Poker.
3. Regarding the number of low level editors, I thought for some
reason that there were 23,000 not 8,000 and that is not a small
number, but they do not control what you see except on a very
superficial level. The ODP staff and to a lesser degree the meta
editors decide what you see both through direct action and by getting
rid of other editors.
4. For fun, look at the "home page" of the current editor of
Games:Gambling:Poker
5. If someone is really interested I will provide the specific site I
submitted so that they can compare it to the contents of the current
Games:Gambling:Poker, I will do this via private email as I have no
desire to spam this group with that site, and secondly since this
isn't a poker discussion group probably no one cares.
6. I contacted the editor via the email form and very politely asked
him to let me know if there was something wrong with the site
submitted. There has been no reply.
7. All of this happened before I took a moment to search for open
directory on the internet and what did I find, a lot of testimonials
from xodp editors describing exactly what I personally experienced
(not just in this group--just look at the first few pages of search
results for Open Directory Project under Google)
8. I fully expect the DOJ to do nothing, but just as a single vote
almost never counts in a big election I still take the time to vote.
