I was invited to design a low cost water purification system. It will be an open design to anyone anywhere in the world. It is something that it will be done ASAP to help with the clean water problem in Asia.
I am focusing on creating a product that can be deployed locally to remote areas, no moving parts, low maintenance (almost zero), easy installation, mobile, low cost.
I saw an interesting design idea a few years ago in Australia (photos attached). I really like its concept and I have a few ideas to create a product that follow the same principle. As well, I have some other ideas that may or may not work.
For example; having the water zig zag (traveling on one row at the time instead of column down), increase crest (waves). Using plastic (black) is probably the cheapest. However, the aluminum backing would provide a better heat distribution. The class could be replaced for plastic but it may loose its efficiency over time due to EVA and EVB. However, as a temporary and quick solution a very fine sheet of plastic could be used. It could last long enough until their infrastructure is back.
Using the sun to purify water is nothing new. If we put our brains together I am sure we could come up with something, a little creativity goes a long way.
I just created a egroup (electronic discussion group) to brain storm ideas. You can freely send messages to the egroup and the messages can be view by all. However, to view the messages you have to sign in as a member (its free). You may already be familiar with the concept. I have being using it for the solar car project for a few years, it works really well.

If you know someone that may have the means to help us design and build a prototype let me know.
We can't fix 2004 but we can learn from it and make 2005 a better.
