Hi team and solar car enthusiasts,

Earlier today we had the solar car on display at the Distillery District (downtown Toronto), there was a Classic Car show with over 65 vehicles going back decades in automotive history.0

Photos attached.

As you can imagine the solar car was the darling of the show.  We had such a great success that the organizers have already invited us to return to the event next year.

Special thanks to Rob, Louis who helped get the car ready for the display.

Hello solar car enthusiasts,

I am pleased to announce a partnership with Canadian Hydrogen Energy Company Ltd (CHEC).

CHEC will equip all support vehicles of the project with their patented Hydrogen Fuel Infection (HFI) system. A great fit with the project as the HFI will increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

HFI generate hydrogen on demand, the hydrogen is mixed with fuel and presto! provide a cleaner and better burn.

More information about CHEC and HFI at the project website under "news update".

During the tour we'll have a 1957 vehicle as one of the escort vehicles equipped with a HFI to demonstrate the technology. This is really exciting, not only because of the exotic looks of the car but because it create less emissions than today's car and probably just as fuel efficient.

More exciting news about XOF1's tour coming soon!

Hello Solar car enthusiasts,

As you may already have learned from the project website "news update". XOF1 is now licensed and registered as a regular vehicle in Barbados.

The past two years I tried to work with various Canadian governments (Ontario, Northwest Territories, Alberta, etc...) to get the proper permission to drive the solar car on public roads without any success.

The project (car and driver) moved to Barbados got licensed and registered, it can now be driven on public roads not only in Barbados but in most countries including Canada protected by the 1949 International Traffic Treaty that overrules local laws.

Interesting enough, regular vehicles are not inspected in Barbados. However, due to XOF1's high profile it got inspected. In fact, the licensing chief officer demanded all inspectors to check the solar car before allowing it to be licensed. After some modifications done to the vehicle it got approved.

XOF1 have also raised it's international profile, we had the car on display at NextFest in New York as well images of XOF1 along with half scale model will be in display for the opening of the first Science Center in the Philippines. It is being used to promote the First International Alternative Congress in Brazil.

Due to its great success in New York, Wired Magazine (NextFest Organizers) have already invited us to have the car on display in Los Angeles this September.

I am now in the process of raising funds to cover the cost of fuel for support vehicles, accommodation and food for the tour. Once I manage to have the funds or sponsors for the items we need we'll commence the world distance record tour.

If you know someone or a company that would like to participate in the project with us. Please let me know.

Kindest regards,

Hello solar car enthusiasts,

I have created a project page at Give Meaning in order to raise money to help off set the cost of the world distance record tour across Canada.

I would like to ask you to vote, it won't cost you anything nor you are required to make any contribution. Just a vote, plain and simple.

Once we have reached the minimum required amount of votes. Give Meaning will assist in finding an organization to work with us, on a partnership level. Meaning a percentage of the funds raised will go that charity.

This present an unique opportunity for the project, a win win situation for everyone.

I have always stayed away from registering the project as non profit organization or a business because I felt it would take the identity of the project. This partnership will allow the project to continue private and independent. However, it create an opportunity for anyone who want to support the project to obtain a donation tax receipt. We'll still have to work an agreement with a charity organization.

In any case you may still want to visit Give Meaning to learn, vote and support other projects.

Please share this email with others,

When will Solar Flair arrive in Vancouver, BC? Can we arrange a
reception / party?

You have a GREAT IDEA, and agree with you 100 percent. Too many people
are complacent, and others have been brainwashed by automobile
advertising into thinking that what Solar Flair will do is
"impossible". Almost nothing is impossible, eh?

FYI, I've arranged 14 electric bike shows in BC, too, some with
electric cars (not hybrids.) Greater Vancouver BC is a district that
has at least FOUR electric vehicle manufacturers, in case you didn't
know. We'd like to have a reception party, with media coverage, when
you arrive in the "Wet Coast" here in BC!

http://www.geocities.com/ebike_shows/science_world_ebikes_1.html

It rains a lot here, due to global climate change (good article about
it in Walrus magazine last year) but some amateur inventors have
figured out a way to produce watts, even when the sun doesn't shine.

Hello solar car enthusiasts,

Once in a while people have asked about how to donate small amount of money to the project. I didn't know how to go about accepting support from people in general. At least with sponsors I was giving something back.

Now there is a way. The "adopt a kilometer" gives an opportunity for people to contribute and be part of the project.

Once you have a chance take a look. I suggested $5,00 per km. We'll be travelling about 22,900kms. If we can get enough people to adopt at least 22,000 we'll get the cost of the tour covered. So, spread the word.

Hi Cakgan,

The encapsulation won't stop the cells from getting broken.

We spray a very thick coating on our cells, they are quite resilient but will still get broken. We sprayed a coat as thick as the cells.

The thick coat was also intended to seal gaps between the cells, in order to avoid water getting behind the cells.

Hope that helps,

Hi Marcelo,

Firstly thanks for your fast and detailed answer. I have some unclear  points about your encapsulation. We sprayed Dow Corning 2577(a conformal coating) on your cells on three layers. And we used double sided tapes like you. But this three layers(we sprayed three times) look so thin and this encapsulation couldnt protect our cells to broken. What we have to use with Dow Corning 2577 for protect our cells broken. ( we hold solar cells with double sided foam tape. Then spray 2577 on three layer. But we cant approach success on encapsulation. Is there any step that we can pass through?). Thanks for your attension again. And happy new years to you and your team members from Turkey.

Hi Cagkan,

By your email address I am assuming your team is in Turkey.

Hope we can be of some help to you and your team.

I am forwarding your email to other team members. So, more people can help answer your questions.

I had more detail info on our solar cell encapsulation, unfortunately our main computer and its back were stolen a few weeks ago. All the files were in there. I'll try to help you the best way I can.

We used two sided foam tape (HVP) to hold the solar cells in place and sprayed conformal to encapsulate the cells. More detailed information can be found under "news update" (http://www.xof1.com/projectnewsupdate.html)

Below are some links that may be of interest to you.

Hope you will find the information useful. Let me know if there is anymore information you may need.

Kindest regards,

Hi all,

We have a problem about encapsulation our solar cells. Is there anyone
have a document about step by step encapsulation in a kind of method.
We prefer more pratical, easier also some efficient method for curve
surfaces. Thanks for your attension.

Hello solar car enthusiasts,

This past weekend we tested the car's limit.

I really pushed the car by perfoming some radical manouvers. XOf1 had
a supperb performance.

We limited the speed test to just over 80kph (50mph).

More information posted at the project website under "news update"

Kindest regards,

Marcelo

Hello solar car enthusiasts,

This week I had the opportunity to share the XOF1 project with about 500 people at SolidWorks World Northern Europe in Vasteras, Sweden. More information under news update.

It was a great opportunity to give the project more international exposure. As a result there will be articles about the project published in Northern European countries.

As you can imagine, things are starting to get very busy as we are on the final stretch to start the world distance record run in a few weeks.

I haven't set the official date yet as the car is being fine tuned and tested and I still need to raise funds to cover the cost of the tour.

I am very optimistic that I'll have a departure date very soon.

Kindest regards,
