I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but it sounds like you
really have two issues, creating a selection to delete and "rippling" it
while you delete. In the current version, there are lots of ways to create
a selection, including the bracket keys, which work nicely with the memory
locations, especially if you've assigned keyboard shortcuts to them. You
can also Shift-select to modify a selection, and so on. You can also store
and recall selections as memory locations.
Once you have a selection, 0.18.2 won't automatically "shuffle" or ripple
for you, you'll have to manually select to the end (with shift-slash) and
move things to cover up what you want to delete or create blank space.
In 0.18.3, you'll just have to make sure ripple editing is on.
