I'm running XXCOPY Pro 64-bit v 2.97.9 on Vista Home Premium. I use an
Administrator account.
My batch files typically call XXCOPY several times, and on each call I
get a UAC prompt which I must get rid of with a click. This is annoying.
Technical Bulletin 42 offers this:
We suggest that you create a user console (CMD.EXE --- so-called
DOS Box) that is invoked with the elevated UAC privilege.
Once inside the privileged console, all XXCOPY executions will
be carried out with the elevated privilege without a prompt.
Technical Bulletin 43 suggests that this be accomplished with the
supplied utility XXCONSOLE.EXE:
As a bonus feature of the new Vista-compatible XXCOPY, when the
application is installed, a shortcut icon will be created on the
Desktop which will open up a console window (CMD.EXE) with the
Administrator privilege. Under a UAC-enabled Vista environment,
the command console with the elevated privilege is probably the
best way to run XXCOPY and batch files alike.
Unfortunately, these suggestions give me no clear idea of how to make
this work.
Let's say my typical batch file (simplified) looks like this:
XXCOPY *.txt J:\texts /yy
XXCOPY *.doc J:\docs /yy
How can I rewrite this batch file to use XXCONSOLE to allow me to run
the commands without repeatedly getting the UAC prompt?
Can someone walk me through this step by step?
Or can anyone suggest some other way of getting around the UAC prompts
without having to turn
UAC off for the whole system?
Thanks.
David
